@stygicniron offered: ❛ his death was not a gentle one. ❜
“no, it wasn't,” she agrees, watching as the shade is comforted by hermes, in his general psychopomp attire. she stands, invisibly, off to the side, but the prince can clearly sense her.
“duty would not have me here were he not important. a child of the gods shall be attended to by death incarnate, no substitutions," she paraphrases from her contract, lingering somewhere in hades' files. “that he was killed so tragically will be for the mortals to grapple with. there was no divinity to this act, as far as i can tell.”
hermes and the soul disappear, and she cannot help the small signs of relaxation and relief that wash over her when the shade is no longer in sight. even the dead can be tricky; perhaps the trickiest, for what more do they have to lose? that's how hermes got saddled with this job in the first place.
“he was a son of enyo, so i doubt the judges will have an easy time sorting him.” she uses terms like son and daughter and child to clarify that they are descendants, but does not bother to get into the degrees of separation. direct descendants are a different matter entirely, often claimed by their parents.
this guy just picked a fight he shouldn't have.
