I think people fixate on the "no playable character is allowed to have conflicts with the Traveler" criticism that they ignore that actually its that playable characters can't have any long lasting conflicts with each other at all.
When was the last time we saw characters on screen seriously disliking each other? Fighting or having serious conflicts that doesn't get resolved in the same quest so they're sudenly fine with each other.
The characters in Nod Krai were too apologetic of the Fatui's colonizing their lands. I can buy Columbina being friends with them for her story and how being a blind hypocrite is her character's theme, but that other Nod Krai characters are fine with them after the A.Qs is just bullshit, Lauma in particular. It was already bad that she didn't have a strong reaction to the Traveler breaking into a place she told them it was important for their culture and causing a relic to get stolen, but then that after the first acts she doesn't have anything against Sandrone and even goes to a tea party with her as if she wasn't in charge of the forced colonization of her lands???
She is supposed to be the religious girl that was raised to be eternally devoted to her lands and culture, yet she lets almost anyone walk over that and her people like that as if her "being a pacifist" is an excuse to be so biteless.
One of my favourite parts in Fontaine's quest was when Lyney was pretty much jumping to strangle Wriothesley after he was made believe he put his family in danger, it was so great to see playable characters get this heated with each other over something so personal, and then they didn't do shit with this.
Even after that being solved and they didn't really end up as firends, I was expecting they would do anything with that tension seeing how much parallels they had and potential to explore but, nope. They don't like each other so they never interact and their tension never gets brought up again. They don't even have lines about each other, Wrio's line about him is about house of hearth in general and Lyney doesn't say anything about him.
And the last event where Furina was next to Arlecchino talking as if that woman didn't attack and traumatized her in the A.Qs. People even noticed that the english dub made Furina sound more relaxed as if she was completely fine while others made her sound nervous as if she was still tense with her. It's like they expect us to buy that it got all solved offscreen because they fear Arlecchino's sales will fall if she is seen upseting Furina again.
And honestly Fontaine in general, seeing how it has a strong theme of having an unfair justice, even having playable characters that fell victims to it, and yet we don't really see them having much resentment against this system because playable characters are also dominating said system and God forgives we question them.
What? That we could use the chief of Justice to explore this unfair sytem designed to mess over the lower classes? Nooo the best we can do is one (1) scene of Navia yelling at him and kinda explore it in his quest because it victimized him in particular. We can't let the players about how he affects the Fontaine citizens! Instead lets give him 100 wholesomes scenes of him being a girldad to the melusines and having yaoibait with the dude he sent to jail as a teen for protecting his siblings from human trafficking. Don't ever question the system under his hand just look how cute and wholesome he is!!!
Honestly people center the criticism towards the Traveler as if the cases of other playable characters aren't worse and affecting the writting much more.
