“And here I was hoping you’d be more thrilled to see my eternally gorgeous face,” he flashed a smirk, eyes filling with mischief. “Definitely not, you’d be surprised with the things one can get away with if you know the right people. What are we waiting on then?”

“Your face is still gorgeous, don’t you worry,” she winked. “I believe you could introduce me to the right people. I’m waiting on you.” 

“I wasn’t being super judgy, you were the one that made a negative comment? Saying 2016 sucks and continuing to talk about how much the island sucks is negative.” Kiara arched an eyebrow. “I wasn’t exactly judging you, just stating facts based on what you gave me and it’s a form of martial arts.”

“Look, I’m sorry. It just hasn’t been the best year of my life. I’m glad you can look for the positive. I however cannot.” She shook her head. “Tell me more.” 

“No, I can’t be calm and don’t touch me. Do NOT touch me.” he growled fiercely as she stepped towards him. He took an involuntarilystep back, as though his mind had already decided to put as much space between them, and shook his head slowly. “A plane crash?” he mumbled, his head starting to spin as he tried to get a grip of reality. “No, NO! You killed me, you and your people killed me.” he hissed venomously, his eyes boring into hers. “What the fuck did I ever do to you to deserve that?”

“That’s always a positive thing to look at. I’ve noticed that many on this island have difficult relationships with their parents.” She mused before handing Gemma the bottle of vodka that was hidden in a water bottle. “I’d have to agree with that. She’d whip America back into shape.” Andy shook her head and leaned back on her hands. “I’m often without anger believe it or not.”

“We’re just a island of misfit toys, I suppose.” Gemma grinned taking the bottle. “Yes, she would. Until then, we have this to help us cope.” She took a swig from the bottle before handing it back.

“A few good things but I think all the bad things that happened this year over shadows most of them.” Hearing Gemma turn towards her, she closed her notebook as she looked up. “I’m sorry. I’m sure Hoodoo isn’t for everyone.”

“After nearly a century it’s hard to keep track of everything.” She sighed sitting down next to her. “Just tell me to quit whining. I stuck here so I need to get over it.” 

“Try being stuck here for nearly a century, it’s no different from the past years spent here,” he shrugged, thinking little of what she was doing. “I find digging my fangs into other’s necks to be far more therapeutic but to each their own.”

“Well, Lucien Stravros, it’s been centuries.” She smiled turning to focus her attention on him. “Perhaps this island sentence won’t be so bad after all. As for neck biting, I could feed.” 

It had been years, centuries, sincehe last heard  that voice which just spoke his name but despite theconfused state he was in, Nate froze in his tracks recognizing immediately whoit belonged to, even before his eyes found her. Gemma had changed, he couldsomehow see it, or maybe it was just that he knew things about her which hedidn’t before. She wasn’t the same person she was before he died, after all, itwas she who had led to him being killed. The image of Cade with an iron stake inhis hand swam to the forefront of his mind and his hands went up to  grab at his hair, trying to separatethe memories which were all jumbling up together and making him so  confused that he felt like screaming. “No, no.You’re - you’re not supposed to be here. How did this happen? What is happening?”

“I’m just saying, some people turned crazy by trying to find a way out. And I’m not that pessimistic, I just think this is a lost cause.”

“I’m already crazy, I don’t think anything will change. Thanks for the warning.” 

“That’s not the same kind of physical. It’s a lot… softer.” She replied with a slight grin, before unconfidently standing up. “How many fingers do you think I’ll break?”

“I do not need to know.” She teased shaking her head. “None, that’s why you wear tape. Or did you just think my forearms were naturally this red?” She asked motioning to her wrappings. 

Daniel let his hands sink into his pickets and shrugged, “I guess that explains…well, everythin’. How?”

“Plane crash. I was on my way to Greece but next thing I knew, I was washed up on some island. What about you?”
