Gabbro used to be scared of death when they were a hatchling. the thought of nonexistence deeply unsettled them, and the fact that it could all simply stop, end without warning, led to many nights they didn't get a wink of sleep. as the years went by, they thought they got over the fear. they even joined OWV and went to space, by far one of the most dangerous things a hearthian could do. one day, though, they found themself trapped in a time loop of infinite death. it wasn't painful, really, and it wasn't true death either. they kept existing. and so did the well-hidden fear. they had all the time in the universe to ponder: what did it all mean, was this forever, would they ever get out, would they even want to get out? eventually the newest pilot, the one actually working their ass off during the time loops, learned of a way to end the loops. they explained it carefully, and it was almost too easy. they could turn the device off any loop they wanted, and Gabbro would be none the wiser. that truly awakened the worst of their fear. they could not let them kill Gabbro. however cruel the time loop was, being torn into an empty finality would surely be worse. everything they did was to convince their time buddy to keep the loops going, from subtle mind games to eventually outright begging. they knew they were selfish. they felt guilty. apologised after every loop ended. one loop, though, it wasn't Gabbro's voice that said "I'm sorry"
