Looking For Alibrandi | Kate Woods | 2000 Its so effortless to watch this film. So much that I watched it, then straight up after watched the Audio Commentary. When I first saw it at the cinema in Port Macquarie, Sydney was foreign to me. Watching it today I know exactly where every scene was filmed. The theme of suicide was also sorta alien. When I first watched it, I was 16 and mental illness wasn’t really spoken about and if it was it was derogatory. Here Matthew Newton’s character John Barton commits suicide to gain control of his destiny and escape. Its so heartbreaking that someone has to go to that length. 17 years on and the scene of the coffin being carried out is still super powerful and makes me well up. Love this film ♥
