tyrell + coding.
Although itâs pretty obvious from the show that Tyrell is extremely harsh on himself when he does something wrong or things donât go his way, I really like the idea that Tyrellâs attitude is a lot different when it comes to coding/programming.Â
Programming/coding takes a LOT of patience, more than someone like Tyrell usually has. But I really do believe that ever since he was a kid (around 13 or so) doing basic coding was what helped him ease his mind. It was a good distraction from home/school life, & one of the few things he never saw as competition. The machine he was dealing with was not challenging him in any way. It was in his power to help it perform some function, or he could also do irreparable damage to some other system. So I really think thatâs the way he always saw it. It was, mostly, about âhelpingâ the computer & in turn the computer would âhelpâ him. & so he could spend hours looking for a bug or mistakes in his code without batting an eyelash or even glancing at the clock.Â
He probably holds a very similar attitude towards it today, too. Even while he was an executive, he customized all of his computer systems. He still ran Linux, used the terminal, ran KDE over GNOME simply because he has a preference for it (not because itâs what was given to him), etc. And I like to think that, honestly, being part of fsociety is giving him the chance to do what he loves while also obtaining the power/control he so craves. Heâs probably never felt more like himself, tbh.Â

Tyrell feels like shit over disappearing/leaving his wife & child to join an underground activist hacker group & yet people think he doesnât actually feel any guilt/remorse after killing Sharon Knowles. But I mean, idk. Iâm just a dude who really likes this shithead that says he prefers KDE over GNOME maybe Iâm biased.Â

            With every word Tyrell spoke he felt his firewall take a blow. He didnât want to be vulnerable, but he felt like he was talking circles around himself and Tyrell wouldnât play along. What was he supposed to say? â Hey, Iâm actually extremely unstable and I lose bouts of my memory while my dead dad takes over my body and consciousness? â or â sorry, my dead dad set all of this up and i have no clue what phase 2 is â? No, he couldnât say any of those things. He was scared.             â Yeah, Iâm a little fucking distracted. â ( shut up elliot! why am i talking? oh god. ) â I was up the past few nights worried because I didnât know if you were safe or not, and your wife was breathing down my neck with a bodyguard threatening to beat the shit out of me if I didnât find you. â ( shut up, shut up, shut up! reel it in â i have to real it in ) â Iâm sorry. The thought of my partner in â godhood, as you put it â being missing or dead or something has had me distracted for the past few days. I donât take my friendsâ well being lightly. â              That seemed like a decent excuse; he has his fingers crossed that this wouldnât turn into some heartfelt moment ending in him having to hug this nutjob. ( itâs better than being strangled by him, donât you think? )  â Iâve barely had enough time to digest that youâre even here with me. â His voice is quieter, the riled up edge in his previous rant gone.Â
    eyebrows shoot up at the subtle shift in volume in elliotâs tone. if the plan was to distract him: heâs accomplished it, if only for now. he looks away to hide the guilt from his features at the mention of joanna, staring at the lines of text on the monitor.
guilt is a sign of weakness and a waste of my time, he tells himself. heâs only doing what is necessary to secure his place in his family once more, as joanna demanded.
      â yes, that sounds very much like her. i apologize for that inconvenience.â itâs an off-handed apology. not much he could do about it now, was there? & elliot was well & alive. heâs more struck by elliotâs next words, really.Â
      â so you finally see it the way i do,â tyrell states. he sounds... both grateful & satisfied, as if he were hearing elliot finally begin to come to his senses. in his head, he is. âiâm glad.â
    tyrell pushes the swivel chair away from the desk with his feet, stands. his steps relaxed, confident, as he walks to where elliot sits and crouches down so he can look elliot directly in the eyes. tyrell has always been a little intense. he plants his hands firmly on elliotâs shoulders, then.
      âwell, youâre here with me now, elliot. & trust me, iâm not going anywhere. but we need to execute the malware as soon as all the records have been transferred. this is what we planned. this is it. this is how we win.â

@seizedpower is this tyrell
I think a lot about Tyrellâs fascination with Elliot, ngl. Thereâs so many factors to it. Thereâs the obvious âwanting-what-you-canât-haveâ aspect to it, because Tyrell desires control above all else and Elliot is unpredictable/something he absolutely has no control over. But then again, Elliot is someone who can help him achieve power & control by letting him be part of something that will take down a conglomerate & put him in charge behind-the-scenes.Â
But apart from that, the Red Wheelbarrow scene in 2.9 really makes me think that Tyrell understands Elliot in ways that many other people donât? Tyrell confessing to Elliot that he does not want to be like his father was certainly not out of the blue, and we saw in season 1 that he knows about Edwardâs lost case against E Corp. So, I really think that Tyrell understands Elliot struggle of not wanting to be like his father and connects to it. They understand each otherâs fears, intimately, and thatâs probably one of the reasons Tyrell is so drawn to Elliot. No one, not even Joanna, has understood that part of him.Â
I want you to be where you belong         Here with me.

            Right. Tyrell, well unstable, wasnât stupid. He was far from it. But Elliot had this feigned friendship built by Mr. Robot on his side, didnât he?            â donât you trust me? â the words line his lips, but he doesnât dare speak them. He knows the answer. Nobody trusts him in this state â he looks like a god damn deer in headlights. Dropping his gaze, he shifts his jaw, trying to hold his own aggravation back. There was no need for two ticking time bombs here. As much as it pains him to do so, he offers Tyrell a smile. Itâs awkward, lopsided â just as strange as itâs always been.            ( shit, shit. shit â think. if i had a lick of information about phase 2 i might be able to bring up a reasonable point. you know something i donât, donât you? tell me. tell me! ) Despite his mental torment, Elliot doesnât let his smile waver. Heâs panicking and Mr Robot was nowhere to be seen. His imaginary friend was useless. It was just him and Tyrell. ( heâs no less unstable than the night he threatened to strangle me. i have to tread carefully. )            â Like I said, itâs only a few days. By then, theyâll feel safe. The FBI has bigger things to track â like the others. Evil Corp isnât their top priority. Darlene got me up to speed on what I missed out on. â ( is he buying this? are you buying this? ) â They only stayed at Evil Corpâs headquarters for a short time, and the security was lax enough that she was able do an FBI data wipe. Wouldnât it be more satisfying to spit in the FBIâs face? Can you imagine their faces when they realize they were mere steps away from the location of the next FSociety attack and they brushed it aside because they didnât think protecting Evil Corp was a priority? You were always one for a light show. â
    tyrell scoffs, blows a light puff of air through his nose. he doesnât understand. if planned correctly, a few days of wait shouldnât make a large difference. but why the change of plans?
    he might be one to derive satisfaction from watching a well-orchestrated spectacle play out in all its glory, crack a pleased smile when the ticking bomb goes off, but elliot isnât. & anyone whoâs bothered to look at the man for more than a second, allowed themselves a moment to observe the way he dresses and carries himself, would know that.
        âthat wasnât the plan we discussed with the dark army, elliot. & i think theyâd be rather upset to hear weâve delayed our plan for nothing more than an ego trip.â was elliot trying to play on his pride? the very idea put him on edge. there was no reason for the elliot to be dishonest with him. they were partners, now.
    next, his tone is wholly cool; thereâs an edge of danger, there. âthe fbi was never our focus, anyway. theyâre a distraction. youâre distracted, elliot. or are you trying to distract me?â

@seizedpowerâ wanted a starter.
             It was still strange to see him â strange to see him alive. Elliot can barely wrap his head around the situation at hand, sitting idly in the corner of the room as Tyrell messed around on the computer. The hacker found himself nearly consumed by his jacket ( comfort blanket my ass â iâm still on the verge of a complete mental breakdown ) in attempts to get a hold on some familiarity. Thereâs a thousand questions that should be spilling from his lips in this moment, but his mouth was dry and his throat felt like it was stuffed with cotton. Even if he could ask questions, what would ensure that Tyrell didnât realize how out of his mind he was? The safest bet was to play along.             ( i have to say something â anything to bide me time to figure out what the fuck is going on. i have to figure out what phase 2 is. ) Clearing his throat, he shifted his tense gaze over to Tyrell. â Itâs not safe to execute today. â ( execute what? at least he thinks iâm a genius â hopefully he wonât question it ) â I â heard the FBI say that they were going to make everything extra secure in the next few days. We should wait. Jumping into this may ruin our chance. Iâll stay here â if you will. â
  nimble fingers cease their motions across the computer keyboard; leave a blinking insertion cursor on the monitor across him. his gaze snaps towards elliot, ever so alert.
  itâs unfortunate, but he doesnât think elliot is acting very sensibly today. heâs reluctant, suspicious, to abide by anything elliot tells him when heâs like this. he might be a genius, but heâs more than unpredictable on occasion.Â
        âwhat are you saying, elliot?â heâs doing his very best to keep any signs of aggravation out of his tone. âif their intent is to increase security, we have all the more reason to execute now.â

If you could blow up the world with the flick of a switch Would you do it? If you could make everybody poor just so you could be rich Would you do it? If you could watch everybody work while you just lay on your back Would you do it? If you could take all the love without giving any back Would you do it? And so we cannot know ourselves Or what weâd really do With all your power With all your power With all your power What would you do?
