Reflection on painting...
I experience painting as a way of knowing. Another way of expressing such a thought is how painting is a form of metaphor, or a certain way of reflecting realities into the world. I understand and experience painting as an art form where motion and stillness when combined, become an indication of what lies beyond words, and beyond physical realities as well.
To me that means that the "what" of painting as content, combined with "how" the work is executed, and "why" it fashioned in the first place are ultimately integrated. The ideal for me is to bring work into existence that will hold over time and across cultures and continue to remind people of their own spiritual instincts.
My interests in painting include Sung and Tang Dynasty painting, Persian Miniature painting, plus what is happening in contemporary international scenes. Along with visiting artists, I have found travel to be most valuable in developing a personal aesthetic.
Currently, I live in the sub arctic in Northern Alberta, Canada. I grew up on an isolated farm in South Central Saskatchewan, Canada. I consider the experience of these isolated environments as a way into the solitude and mystery of the act of painting.Β
