oh boy. garrance was my ride or die for a while, though that's since gone on the back-burner bc i prefer platonic garmau as a pairing now. idk which version you're referring, but i'll answer both: mcd - i like it. i used to LOVE it, but now it's alright. i think they have a beautiful chance for a trade-off of support - laurance supporting garroth in becoming more comfortable with vulnerability in s1, and then garroth being laurance's support in s2/helping him find roots in his humanity in s3 (not that that one happened - i just think there would be good potential in that). we already know they quickly got pretty close after laurance regained his sight, with them very much so being the "i can tell him anything" kinda vibes. even things they dont think they could tell aph. i think they're fine not being canon - though i think if "The List" were canon, they would be soso fun to explore, esp if the relationship itself wasnt. but i'm ok with reading between the lines. they're complicated, imperfect, and maybe a little undefined. to me now, they're a fleeting experience they had and both cherish, but they're a little doomed. aren't meant to be. "maybe in another life."

i think that's a slightly different situation - because we also have to keep in mind that laurance's mental health has been rapidly deteriorating over the course of season 2, and by the point garroth's returned, laurance is MIA. earlier in the season, he expresses how much he misses garroth alongside aphmau. but towards the end of the season, laurance is battling a lot of rage and anger that he can't control.

another thing is that i would not call laurance telling it as it is a consequence for what garroth's done. all he does is say the truth (albeit, harshly). if i remember correctly, it's along the lines of "you would want to leave it there. after all, you're the reason he's gone." mic drop and laurance leaves. garroth takes it well, because he understands that 1) laurance is right 2) laurance is also not in the right mental space. laurance does not say this out of bitterness. he is not particularly distraught over aaron's death. he doesn't even say it in a "we're in this mess because of you." when he says this, it's more of a "gotcha" moment to make a point in his argument, because he's upset that garroth's not upset like he is about aphmau and aaron's relationship in the first place. so, while it could be seen as laurance getting upset with garroth about the whole irene dimension thing - he's not really. in fact, it has nothing to do with the "time skip" at all. he's trying to hurt garroth because he didn't back him up in ganging up on aphmau. (mental illness ladies and gents)

when i say laurance wasn't going to be the one to give garroth proper consequences, i mean like ACTUAL consequences. while this includes aph/laur getting upset or bitter at him for what happened (which ive established they wouldnt do), there's more to it than just that too. garroth did in fact perform an act of treason - that's insanely serious. i'm not saying he should have been put to death or anything, but given the time period that doesn't seem like it could have been out of the question. imprisonment, stripped of knight/guardhood, exile, hell - even people just being mad at him or shunning him, are all things that could have come out of this. real, tangible consequences. those are the things that i don't think aphmau or laurance would even consider or do.

a big issue i have is that garroth knows the difference between someone high in power and someone who is an average citizen. he knows the difference between "The Man" and your everyday farmer. he was raised in okhasis to see that kind of privilege and then he lived in phoenix drop where he saw good people trying to live honest lives.

which is why this whole "Tu'La = Bad, Liochant = Tu'La, therefore Liochant = Bad" mentality doesn't make any sense, especially for garroth as a character? he of all people knows that that kind of association does not determine who someone will be. like, don't get me wrong, i like twisting his hesitance for liochant as more of trust issues because of zenix, but that's purely headcanon. any in-universe explanation genuinely falls flat, because that is not how garroth is as a character.
