Hey! Have you ever tought about going on Tapas with your comic? There is a policy against nudes, but at least just the uncensored one. I heard that here they've taken down even shit like shirtless dudes
I actually have researched a lot of other comic hosting platforms before i decided to post Interstellar Theatre here, friend LOL! And Tapas was recced to me the most, but the thing is: if the viewers want to read chapters that have nsfw parts in them, theyâll have to make an account and pay to view. Currently, I only draw my comic in draft form because thatâs all my free time allow me to, and I donât want to charge people for reading my sketchy, unpolished drafts. So yeah⌠Tapas was off my list.
And yes, the rumor is true, tumblr has been flagging and hiding my shirtless men as well (Q PoppaâŚ) and Iâve appealed and am waiting for a long time, but theyâre still in the appeal content list ayyyâŚ. This is why Iâm now posting my art on my pillowfort and twitter instead, I donât trust tumblrâs shitty algorithm, at all. I mean, can you? Ayyy
And for everyone who are interested in my written work/fanfics, here is my ao3!

So far Iâve had some of my drawings flagged, even the perfectly safe pics (Q Poppa being shirtlessâŚ), and honestly, it would not be a surprise for me if their bots are gonna flag/censor LGBTQ+ posts as well in the future ://///, so much for self discovery and expressing hmmmm.
If anyone is wondering, I wonât delete my tumblr account, but who knows what would happen to it in the future hmmm...
One thing I know for sure that I wonât be able to upload my comic Interstellar Theatre (or many of my art) on tumblr anymore, since the later plots in the story will surely tickle the new guidelines aayyy!
But Iâll be sure to update about Interstellar Theatre on Twitter and Pillowfort if I found a perfect site to host for everyone to read!

Pillowfort is down for server maintanence and security updates until wednesday, after which I believe they will be offering paid codes again....won't be free for a while though because it's difficult to build out that much server space.   Â

Hi quyen, I'm a big fan of your art and I've been following your blog for a couple years now! Your circus story is amazing and I love the characters<3 do you have advice for some one wanting to make their own web comic like you did? I have so many ideas of my own but can never seem to fully flesh them out...

And advice for making comic? Of course! But this is going to be quite a read, so sit down, friend, and have a cup of steaming hot tea while weâre at it!
Disclaimer: this is my own process of working on my stories, other artists and authors might do it differently.
First thing first: Pick one idea and pin it!
Itâs great that you have a creative mind and lots of ideas, (I feel you on this part, friend!) but if you actually want to put your pen down and start drawing your comic, you have to pick ONE that you feel the most interested in, and willing to invest a lot of your time and effort to work on it, especially when you want to post this regularly on a webcomic site (and decide to monetize it).
Since Iâm only posting my comic drafts (not fully polished comic) on tumblr for now, I, fortunately; can work on it whenever I want, or when I have time to spare in between my other projects. But with a webcomic that demands regular update youâll want to plan ahead carefully with a schedule, so it will be less stressful when the deadlines come.
Then you can start brainstorming and expanding from the idea that you have picked. Itâs fine if you are still struggle at some parts, just note down your ideas for the story and the rest will come and fit themselves in the plots!
Secondly: Do research
Even if youâre not doing historical genre like I am, there are still many elements you should look up information for like world building, currency, maps, technology, etc.
It doesnât have to be 100 accurate since there are a lot of information that we donât have access to, but you should try your best and look up as much as you can. And remember: References are your friends! Even now I still do a lot of research on each part of my comic, and I always have references of old Victorian London in a specific timeline, as well as the 19th century London maps open whenever I feel like I need them (which I do a lot!)
Thirdly: Character designs and development:
There is no rules when it comes to design the characters you want, the stars of your show. However, your characters need to start from somewhere; they might have suffered from traumatic past, have a few failures on the way and learn their ways with life, itâs up to you.
The point is: you need to show how they grow throughout your story, how they change getting from point A to point B (I recommend making charts or notes for each characterâs important parts and events if you can), Â thatâs what makes the readers feel more connected with your characters, IMO.
Beside these 3 important points, there are a few other things you can consider, like whether you want to draw it in classic comic format or webcomic (scroll down to read) format, how many chapters should your story have, where is the best platform to host your comic, etc. These are the things you should decide yourself though.
