I don't need the chatgpt random algorithm to write emails for me because I already have a custom and 100% flawless algorithm called "writing the exact same three emails with the names changed"
#1: "hi [landlord], hope you're doing well! [apartment thing] is [broken/a problem]. we need it [fixed/replaced/handled] by [date]. let us know when you'll send someone over so we can be here to let them in. thanks so much, [op]"
#2: "hi [professor], hope you're doing well! unfortunately, I'm [sick/stuck at work/dead] and won't be able to submit [assignment] by [due date]. could I please have an extension? if not, is there anything else I could do to make up this credit? thanks so much, [op]"
#3: "hi [customer service person], hope you're doing well! unfortunately, [product] [didn't arrive/is broken/wrong color/gave me a rash/poisoned my crops] and I'd like to receive a [refund/replacement]. here is the documentation of the order and photos of [broken thing/wrong thing/my rash/dead crops]. thanks so much, [op]"
"but op I work in an office I have to write way more emails than you" well that's your fault for working in an office i got nothing to do with that
Writing an email is so easy and I will tell you how it's done. This is the advice is for everyone with an email job, but you can apply it to normal human interaction.
The FIRST SENTENCE is the thing you want the recipient to do. Do not make them guess.
I want to let you know about ... (This email is to inform someone of something not to ask them to do anything)
Could you please do ... (This is a request. You want them to do something).
I'm looking into x and wondering if you can help me (this is also a request but for information instead of an action).
People do not want to read an email and even if they do read it, most people are skimming and not interested. Tell them what you want first, then provide context or other information (when you need a thing is often key). If the email is informational, you can even add "you don't need to do anything, this is just to keep you informed!" People will appreciate not having to figure out what you want from them.
If you can't articulate what you want the recipient to do with the message, you are not ready to email them. I read too many emails where I have no idea what the person wants from me.
Put the most important thing first and everyone will be impressed! AI cannot do this for you because it can't tell what's important! Only you know that, which is why you must write your own emails.
to everyone who wants help with emails: go through the notes of this post. there are ideas I've never thought of and plenty of scripts for all kinds of situations/jobs
this might be kind of a reach but is there a way for printers to connect to devices so that documents can be printed from them
I never saw people say stuff like this enough when I was a teenager, so I’m saying it now.
I’m in my mid-thirties and I have never had sex. I’ve thought about it and could have had one or two opportunities if I put in more effort, but I always decided against it because I just wasn’t into it at the time.
I can safely say that I do not feel I have missed out on anything. I was perfectly capable, by myself, of learning about my own body and boundaries without anyone else there to muddy the waters. The immense pressure that was there in my teens/twenties to Have Sex Just Do It is basically gone. I’m vibing. I’ve got my routine by myself in bed that I enjoy, and that’s enough for me.
And in the unlikely event that I ever decide to have sex with someone in the future, I don’t feel at all like I’m lacking some essential Knowledge or Skill that would “make it good” for someone else. I fully expect to ask my partner out loud what they like and to receive an answer clearly communicated and to relax and have fun. And if it’s a disappointing experience, I’m fine with that too. It is what it is.
Sex is just not that big of a deal. I suspected it as a teen, and I’m more sure of it now. It’s fine to have it or not have it. It’s whatever.
"All drugs are drugs" = a surprisingly radical position that will upset people right across the political spectrum
This means:
If you draw a hard line between "drug" and "medicine" based on current legality where you live (or any other criteria) you've gone wrong somewhere,
If you think legality and/or prescription status tells you all you need about a substance's capacity to do massive harm to someone's body, mind or well-being you've gone wrong somewhere,
If you think legality and/or prescription status tells you all you need about a substance's capacity to contribute meaningfully to someone's healing, function or happiness you've gone wrong somewhere,
If you think certain substances should be excluded from informed consent (either withheld or forcibly administered) you've gone wrong somewhere.

like did you know that trees lower the surface temperature by up to 19° and grass by up to 24°... access to green space is access to safety in a climate crisis and it is a massive site of inequality because poorer areas tend to have less green space and thus get hotter. urban trees are an equality issue as well as a climate issue. sorry it's not a magic bullet that solves everything but sometimes you need to pick an issue that helps a bit and focus on that. this might not be yours. it's likely going to be mine in the future when my health issues allow me to take it on. if we each pick a thing we can make a difference
Once you become a weird forest person it eats you and you can never be normal again
Intricately wrapping myself in a wool blanket on top of my bed was a decision that made a lot of sense, actually, and I think more people would agree with me if they'd ever been in a situation where this was important for avoiding hyperthermia in conditions that were not remotely extreme and all the result of personal choices that had seemed good at some point in time

Germans completely outdid the english language by calling tv a farseer. They got their orcish shamans to name that shit
Okay, yes, the word for television in German is 'fernseher' ("far-seer"). But also, if you want to say you're watching television, you'd say 'ich sehe fern' ("I'm seeing far"), which I find a lot more fun

I like finding out what people my age and older had as their first cell phone. Anybody younger and their answer is a generic Android or iPhone. Phones from the 2000s were some wacky device like the sidekick or samsung x83 or lg env2
My first phone was a nokia 1112 in 2008
I've researched antisemitism a lot because I DO want to convert when I am able to and because it's a vitally important thing to understand not just as a potential convert but also as someone who cares about the safety and wellbeing of Jews.
And something I've noticed recently is that the attitudes of progressives today regarding Jews in media and art is very reminiscent of the Soviet era, where Jewish participation in art and culture was praised as long as it wasn't actually Jewish.
Jewish actors are allowed to be loved as long as they never talk about being Jewish or only turn it into a punchline, like in Friends. Jewish writers and directors are allowed to be in the writing room as long as they don't make the show or movie too Jewish. Jewish comic artists are loved for their works and allowed to make their characters Jewish. . . as long as it's as a metaphor that can later be erased or twisted into something Christian.
I've noticed this very strongly in the reception to s2 of The Pitt; Noah Wyle was praised for including the Shema and having Robby wear a Magen David in s1, but in s2 where Robby is more openly Jewish in a way that isn't gifable or aesthetic or fascinating to a gentile audience, suddenly Robby is the evil villain and Noah Wyle is a baby killing evil Zionist and the show is just Israeli propaganda. Because Robby's Jewishness is no longer something that the fandom can ignore or turn into an aesthetic, it's front and center, it's something he openly talks about, he has a synagogue and a denomination and a complicated relationship with Judaism that doesn't fit into Christian ideas of religious trauma.
It's just very chilling, watching this switch happen in real time. Judaism is allowed to exist on tv when it's a punchline or a throwaway ocmment, but an openly and proudly Jewish character is too far for most people. Fans want Robby to reject his Jewishness, they want Wyle to perform a display of antisemitism to humble not just Robby but also himself, and it's reflective of a much larger pattern regarding Jews in media.
