This coming school year, teachers and parents could be hearing talk of a brand new game inspired by Minecraft, but adding role-playing game (RPG) elements that so many kids (and adults!) love.

That game is Cube World.

It’s currently in Alpha mode and not officially released yet but, like Minecraft before it, it’s available for curious gamers to explore.

I did just that. After running around, fighting monsters and generally having a blast, I’m confident the name “Cube World” will make its way through school playgrounds and become a household name very soon.

So what is Cube World?

As Minecraft continues to storm through the world of gaming, education and everywhere else, one thing is for certain: everybody wants to create their own server!

In the rush to be the ruler of their own world, many gamers and teachers forget to secure their Minecraft servers from unwanted visitors who could destroy (aka grief) your builds.

Gamification Jail on GamingEdus Minecraft server

How do some teachers on the GamingEdus Minecraft server feel about education's hot new trend: Gamification? Watch and find out.

Liam O'Donnell, Denise Colby and Diana Maliszewski return to the Academy of the Impossible  on June 20 at 7pm, for another discussion around the successes and challenges of their GamingEdus project, bringing Minecraft into elementary schools in Toronto.

This open discussion will look at the promises and perils of Games Based Learning and Gamification in the classroom. Questions, ideas and opinions are all very welcome!

The GamingEdus Professional Play server will also be open for exploration, play and creativity. There will be accounts to borrow, but you're encouraged to bring your laptop and Minecraft accounts to join in the fun.

The GamingEdus Minecraft server organized an online gathering during the March Break so many people could time their play and be on simultaneously.

It's fun to have new players on. We had massive PvP battles involving multiple people. Other people showed some of the things they were building. Still others made colossal explosions. Everyone could do their own thing, choose their own adventure. The server was busy and it was great.
