Update
Sorry I haven't been active as much, I've been finalizing the last bits and pieces of the game! It's so crazy to me that I'm this close to done. Just a text post for today unfortunately, but I wanted to say that all the art is done. I won't show off all of it in screenshots, I want there to at least be a few surprises when the game is out. I’m putting together the last bits of story, maybe a few easy to implement art pieces, and then it will be done! It’s so close I can taste it. So close I’ve already started thinking about another project when I really shouldn’t be because the last thing I need is to get distracted. I still plan on releasing in January, I don’t want to be overshadowed by the Steam Winter sale even though the game would be ready by then, and I want to give myself time to reach out to everywhere on the internet I can and market this game. I’m putting together a trailer I think will turn out pretty well, and hopefully some good reddit posts that gain traction.Â
If you know anyone I should contact, or if you’d like to cover my game, connect me with someone who might cover my game, anything that would assist in marketing, just DM me here or on Twitter, I could really use the help. Thank you!

Hi Which software you use for modelling?
I use Blender! Free and there are tons of good tutorials for it. The interface is kind of intimidating and doesn’t always make sense, but if you get confused someone online will have the answer you’re looking for so that’s always nice
Meet Rockthony
Leading up to my deadline today of being feature complete and ready to start marketing, I’ve worked on everything BUT NPCs, I wasn’t even sure if they’d be in the game. I’m pretty proud that I’ve gotten to make Rockthony though, and I’m fairly confident he’ll play a big role in the final game. Also Happy Halloween, sorry I don’t have halloween themed stuff to show off, I was busy making the game work properly :(
Update
  The last phase of development has begun, the most difficult part. It’s been so insane working on this game. Now all that’s left to do is polish, playtest, add in a tiny bit more content, and release! It’s exciting and terrifying!
  I’m going to describe the timeline for the remainder of development, but first I want to say that making a game is very very stressful and it can be very isolating. If you have game developer friends, make sure you reach out to them, keep in contact, be supportive. I had friends who did that for me and it made all the difference.Â
Timeline:
-All major content completed by October 31st
-Playtest, polish, and market throughout November, minor content additions throughout
-Release either December or January, depending on demand and other game’s that are being released in that time frame
  Sounds simple, will definitely be the scariest and most difficult two to three months of my life. I hope that all this work I’ve put in will pay off and I’ll at least be able to make another project. You can help make that happen though, and it won’t cost you anything!Â
  If you want to support me, show this blog to your friends. Reblog some of my posts, any of them. What I need more than anything, is exposure, and that’s something that anyone can do.

Sometimes Unreal likes to mess up my material slots when I reexport a model/models from Blender. No idea why this happens, it happens seemingly by chance. It has some entertaining results though, like changing all my stone materials to the water material, like in this pictureÂ
And the whirlpool got turned a lovely slime green.

State of the Game Oct 2017
What’s up, everyone?
It’s been a while since I’ve posted an overview of where The Waking Cloak’s development is at, so let’s do that!
Currently I’m working on:
Art, animation, and logo for title screen
Mechanics and prototyping for a major game item–the swap staff
NPC art
Planning for story, draft two
Roll attack for combat
Dungeon design
Tweaking the pit hazard
Discord server setup
Writing this post (hehe)
NaNoWriMo
November is NaNoWriMo: National Novel Writing Month–if you write 50,000 words by the end of the month, you win (there are lots of winners)! This year I’ll be writing the second draft of The Waking Cloak’s story, and I’m very excited.Â
Back in 2015 I wrote the first draft, which sort of just ended up being a very extensive outline. This year’s version will be much more in-depth. I’ll be going into each of the character’s lives and hammering out a bunch of lore. It’s gonna be great.
I’ll be pausing other development in the game (NPC reveals included) until December, since NaNoWriMo will take up every second of my free time. Once it’s over, I’ll pick up development where I left off, with the addition of finishing up combat (roll attack and simple enemy AI, mainly).

For those who are unaware, Discord is a communication app, like Skype but not evil. It’ll be a place where we can hang out in real time, chat, discuss the game, whatever–an honest-to-goodness The Waking Cloak Community! There will be a channel for you guys to ask me questions, a channel to post fan art, and so on. I hope you’ll join me in getting hyped about this. :D
There are a few more things to do before it goes public. First, for my sanity during NaNoWriMo, I’ll be waiting until at least December of this year. January 2018 is probably a safer bet! Keep watching this space or my Twitter (@MrDaneeyul) for updates!
