Is nobody going to talk about Frankie being trans?
I went into this show blind, not even knowing that Dana Terrace was working on it. But I think it's glorious that her revenge project stars a buff trans woman.
And yes, Frankie is definitely trans. It's not obvious at first, because everybody calls her "Francesca" or "Frankie". But about halfway through the pilot, when Sparky and his crew catch her and Andrea taking the droid, you know what they call her? "Frank." "Franklin."
Sparky respected her name on the boat, but when she crossed him? He immediately went to dead-naming her. And although he doesn't touch Andrea, he has no problem beating the shit out of Frankie, claiming she can't get special treatment (compared to the boys behind him).
But I don't think Frankie is trans just for the sake of being trans. It's vital to understanding her character. Unlike Andrea, who likes Princess Guinevere a moderate amount and grows out of it, Frankie practically worships the Princess. Given Frankie's reaction to the Princess in the flashback, Guinevere was probably the first adult to call her "Francesca" and acknowledge her as a girl.
This makes Frankie's desire to get into the company that much sadder. She clearly has massive amounts of talent and loyalty to the brand...but she's also trans. In the corporate world, her identity matters more than her qualifications, but Frankie is the only one who hasn't realized that yet.
