Fall of an Empire or Not?

Last night episode was the best so far for the entire season. Why? Because it showed all the flaws,strengths, weakness and emotions of the entire cast. It dealt with the strangulation of homophobia, Luscious couldn't see past Jamal being Gay to see a great solid business prospective. His pride and ignorance is getting in the way of logical thinking. 

Struggles with mental illness. The world saw his son's mental illness spun out of control. Even Luscious saw the severity of Andre's bipolar. It scared him, yet it angered him, or is he angry because he is embarrassed? For whatever he was feeling, I’m sure somewhere in Luscious thought process he was thinking "you ain’t running Empire. No way!) The question is how Luscious now deals with the reality of his son's illness. Will he show him the shame disrespect as Jamal? 

The blow of betrayal by Boo Boo Kitty. Who saw this coming, because I did for a while? Boo Boo Kitty, was/is dumb, she played her hand too early in the game. You really let jealousy make you run? Baretti will chew her up, spit her out and flush her. Oh that's after he gets both hands on her knees. By the way, please give Luscious back his ring...Dumb

The fight for survival and the agony of having to deal with an incurable disease. As straight out gangsta (and I use that in a more positive manner) as Luscious maybe, within that gangsta empire, it has its flaws. His illness is making him weak, but he still fights for what he built, his legacy, his mission, his music. That's what makes him who he is, the Lyon. (and I love the analogy of the name- Strength) Last night episode gave us a great look into his struggles to maintain control. The idea of his empire crumbling before he died was too much to bear. His legacy was not completed, His plan of action to get Empire where he wants it to be has a longer time span that the time span of his illness. 

To slap or not to slap? That is the question, what is this show?

I  just can’t get this show. First twoweeks, it’s about the slap. Third week about Anouk and her boy toy and being pregnant. What really is the direction of this show? How this slap affected so much lives, and how long will the stories hold up is left up to the writers to be creative. I think the problem here is that the author of this book was better able to tell this story, than the writers, producers and director are able to depict it in a show. (Just like 50 shades)Sometimes there are books best left as books for us to read, and never made into a movie/show etc., and this is one of them.

 The show seems to be all over the place.  Anouk can’t decide on her love life and being pregnant for a man that’s old enough to be her child. Dealing with her mother’s sickness and whatever else mess she has going on. Sounds like her normal life and nothing about the “slap” had anything to do with that. She seems totally messed up, long before the kid got slap. Hector was having an affair before the kid got slap, what’s going to stop him from carrying on, seems he will need to relieve more stress now than before especially if Anouk tells his wife, that she didn’t see the slap because she was looking at her husband flirting with the teenager half his age.

Special Idiot Keen- This is where she needs to be for the rest of the season. 

Honestly,something is wrong with special idiot Keen. Why does she keep getting herselfin to these dumb situations? Really, you’re looking for a suspect and walk straight into a shovel? Why are the writers creating all these dumb scenes for her, is the show planning on dropping her and replacing her with someone else after Red gets the Fulcrum? Taking the show in another direction?

Even her partner had to talk some sense into her when she said she was going to the detective, and tell him about the Harbor Master…WHAT????) I don’t think she understands the value of Red, or maybe as he told her last night she might be having some pre-conceived withdrawal issues if he disappears after getting the Fulcrum. 

The show is starting to lack some intellectual credibility with her. She is constantly taking Red for granted, and now her husband, ex-husband whatever he is, is coming back. What other dumb moves will she make now..again. She had the opportunity to kill him once, twice maybe three times, and she lets him live. Go figure. Perhaps a woman in love. Give me the gun! 

And he Came out!

FINALLY!!!The occasion was perfect, the song was popping, and Jamal killed it. It was a very creative way for him to come out to the world, thanks to Papa L advice. Maybe the balcony wasn’t high enough for papa L to tumble over, but Jamal did it in style and class and guess what…NOBODY CARED papa L. 

Well, I knew that boo boo kitty was gonna do some crap, trying to act like she in gangster league. Does she understand that Papa L is gangsta, street smart, hustle and flow smarts. You got to play the game and obviously she doesn’t know the game. Jealousy is not a factor in cookie and Luscious’s world . It’s about the music! First rule of Papa L…it’s about the music. You can’t think that he will turn his back on Cookie 100% for you. That’s his bottom, if you know what I mean. 

So Andre can’t sing, can’t even kill himself properly. Not everyone is cut form the same cloth, but if you are a smart CFO, then be smart and don’t go sneaking around papa L’s back to try to take over his empire. Remember Papa L is GANSTER!!!  Maybe the best thing he can do is take his medication, and pimp out his unnecessary wife. Will they be back for season 2….Why?

Lawyer man needs to thread really carefully, you may think you have papa L in your pocket, but hey he took out his best friend, what makes you think he won’t take you out….maybe he will take you out, but I like Malik Yoba…hmmm it would be sad to see him go so soon, but I still don’t see his purpose in this show.

Sohere it is. The famous slap. If you didn’t watch it, no big deal, if you did,well shame on you, if you got slap, well you deserve it..Really, how long this show will last based on a slap?

There are a few things going on here. Cultural differences, wealth, poverty, arrogance, infidelity, ignorance, breast feeding 5 or 6 year old, maybe some form of autism, mental health issues, and disciplinary issues. You name it, you’ll find it in the slap.

So the premise of this show is that this guy slaps this out of control, walking breast feeding kid (totally mom has issues) who may have some form of autism, emotional or mental issues because mom is too lazy to go buy milk from the store, or prefers her own pasteurized brand straight from her udders. It causes a rift between friends and families, and leads to the slapping guy being arrested. 

Well the show basically ask you to choose sides, was he right or wrong for slapping the kid (after the kid kicked him), due to the kid’s behavior, and the possibility that the breast feeder kid could have hurt the other kids. You can see that there is no disciplinary structures in that kid’s home, the mother is delusional for still breast feeding him with a mouth full of teeth (I wonder if he ever felt the need to chew) and the father seems to have a constant alcoholic look, or maybe that’s his normal look. Fact remains no one should ever hit anyone’s child…NEVER.

Scandalopera

Am I the only one whothinks that Scandal is getting weak,  kind of soap soapoperish? Yes I heard the ratings were up after the first few episodes, but now that Olivia is back....??????? What happens to her relationship with Mr. President? I was a bit taken back when she yelled at Mr. Prez, but then I got it, and she was right. What kind of weak ass leader of the free world is he? You risk the country over one woman just so you can prove you don't need to take Viagra. Which one wins out, love of the country, or love of the woman. Command didn’t show the love, brother man kept on fishing (or did he?) but hey if you tried to kill me, I may be quite satisfy to see you live a luxurious life with the Iranians, Russians or perhaps tilt man from NK.

I had a discussion with a friend about the scene with Jake and command. The take on this was that no parent is going to sit back and leave their child in a life or death situation. I thought it was possible with command, because I think command's first love is power, control; country first, Olivia second.

So each week I will post my opinions on some of the really good shows on TV, and some of the not so great, but we watch them just to see what will happen. Some of the networks have new shows beginning in March, and I will "try" to predict which ones will be hits, cancel within weeks or last for just one season.
