the reason they did not appear in the battle against the earthbound gods 5000 years ago is because they were not one of the five chosen. they were busy protecting and escorting other duel spirits, notably the younger ones, to safety.

the mane of their dragon form is a mix of feathers and hair, with the predominant part being feathers.

His spirit typically inhabits both cards as though they were one, only transferring wholly to one or the other when either card is summoned; if he is sent to the cemetery during a duel, he remains with the card in the cemetery until such time he is resurrected or summoned in his other form rather than ‘hopping’ over to the other card.

However, in order to maintain this life support until such time as a befitting fifth Signer awoke or Life Stream was sufficiently healed, the Crimson Dragon also wiped all evidence of Life Stream Dragon from the memories of every spirit, including Life Stream himself:

the Signer Dragons remembered only a fifth dragon being in the battle, but nothing of their name or what they looked like to describe for the future Signers’ benefit.

all Life Stream’s memories were erased until the point of his resurrection as Power Tool Dragon, with his mind being programmed to assume he was only brought into creation after the war or has simply forgotten over time what his role was in the war.

The brother-sister relationship between Life Stream and Ancient Fairy was transposed onto Power Tool, with Power Tool believing he had been in the place of Life Stream the whole time.

All other duel spirits only remember there being five dragons and can only describe Stardust, Red Demon’s, Ancient Fairy, and Black Rose sufficiently. Like the Signer Dragons, they only remember a fifth being there, and any attempt to recall beyond this is a fruitless effort.

As they were sealed within the Nazca geoglyphs at the time, the Crimson Dragon’s memory wipe was not as effective on the Earthbound Gods. They clearly remember an orange-coloured fifth dragon being there and, although they cannot recall whether it was him or not, all of them have the distinct impression there is something incredibly familiar about Power Tool Dragon.

As Life Stream Dragon, he lost his arm in the initial war against the Earthbound Gods and the Underworld King. It was a blow dealt to him by the Underworld King that resulted in him losing his arm, and several more than brought him so near to death the Crimson Dragon had no choice but to transpose his spirit into a mechanical form. Although when Rua summons and unlocks Life Stream Dragon his arm has grown back, it is not the original. Instead, it is one regrown thanks to the Crimson Dragon’s power. Power Tool, however, has grown accustomed to his disability and think of his metal arm as though it was his own.

All of the Signer Dragons are intensely powerful creatures. Duel Spirits can sense their incredible power and spiritual pressure and know well to be afraid if one of the dragons stand against them in combat. Humans, too, can sense the power of the spirits and are filled with a sense of massive awe as well as a sense of their own small significance in the universe. Although Stardust has never experienced it with any spirits other than the Crimson Dragon and the Blue-Eyes White Dragon, it has been told it is a similar sensation to that a child feels when they look up at the stars and the universe.

I place two cards face down…and, as I end my turn, I activate a monster effect from my cemetery! Be reborn! Stardust Dragon! This is part of Stardust Dragon’s monster effect! On the end phase of the turn in which it activates it’s effect to release itself, I can special summon this card, in my cemetery, to my field!”

Stardust ‘dies’ with every use of Victim Sanctuary. It does not return to the Spirit World when it is destroyed, but languishes in a space between, a void almost like death. When it was a young spirit, Victim Sanctuary and the act of dissipating into stardust caused it extreme pain, but as an older spirit it has grown accustomed to the pain and now only feels a familiar dull ache. The agony is not exclusive to the initial activation of Victim Sanctuary, but the reactivation of it when it is summoned from the cemetery. The pain it feels from being forcibly reformed and thrust back into the battlefield is more extreme than the deformation, but if deforming is a dull pain to the dragon, reforming is akin to ripping off a wax strip: hot, immediate, and stinging, but fleeting and over sooner than the first pain.

It does not mind this agony, however. It regards it as a necessary pain, a burden it must bear to protect others, much as Yusei regards the tragedy of his parents’ involvement in Zero Reverse as his burden. It does not complain, nor does it inform anyone, human or Duel Spirit, that it feels pain with its effect. It is entirely willing to encounter any pain, large or small, to protect the universe, especially if it is for the sake of Yusei or the other Signers. The only exception to this is during the time it belongs to Jack; the agony there was made more poignant, more akin to how it feel in the spirit’s youth, when Jack used it’s effect against Yusei in their first duel for two years. The pain and the fact Jack was unscrupulous enough to use Victim Sanctuary and Stardust against it’s destined Signer fueled it’s resentment of Jack and led it to hate the Wing Signer more for his actions. Although it forgave Jack and Red Demon’s before the emergence of the Dark Signers, it still remembers how it felt during those two years.

When it said good luck and farewell to the other dragons before each battle, it did so in a way that would be final and comforting if it died at their enemy’s hands.

Stardust had never been used by Jack in the two years it spent as his prisoner. Although Jack occasionally stored it in his deck, he often put it in his inner coat pocket instead, separating it from the Duel Spirits of his deck. When Jack summoned it in the duel against Yusei after the latter’s escape from Satellite, that was the first time it had been summoned in years.

It has never forgotten the desperate loneliness it experienced in that period, and so clings subconsciously to friends and family when in their presence. It does not consciously know, however, that it’s imprisonment had that effect on it. Stardust actively despised the time it spent in Jack’s clutches. Although it does not hate the monsters that comprise Jack’s deck, the fact it was stolen from its Signer for two years by another Signer drove it to hate Jack. It had always had a friendly rivalry with Red Demon’s Dragon, but the two years it spent as Jack’s prisoner drove it to resent both Signer and dragon for it’s imprisonment.

Wiraqocha Rasca, as the creator of the Gods and former Nazcan sun deity, is the oldest and original Earthbound God. Uru is the oldest of their ‘children’, followed by Cusillu as the second. Ccapac Apu is older than Ccarayhua and Aslla Piscu, who are the same age, being the only two to come into being at the same time. Chacu Challhua follows Aslla Piscu, and Yuraq Allqu follows them.

Geo Gryphon was born when the Earthbound Gods were still very young and beginning to establish themselves as a worldwide threat. Although Wiraqocha Rasca had already begun to put into place the creation of servants, Gryphon’s birth prompted them to accelerate the plan. Gryphon was taken from Aslla once no longer dependent on her (and thus appearing fully grown in his divine form, despite only being a scant few months old) and had his mind altered to believe he was the first Earthbound Servant and therefore the oldest.

Later, Wiraqocha Rasca came to Aslla Piscu and told her of their plan; she would be able to keep the baby until they were weaned, then Wiraqocha Rasca would alter their mind to have them believe they were not a God, but an Earthbound Servant – an idea Wiraqocha Rasca had been musing on prior to Gryphon’s birth. Though Aslla Piscu railed against her father’s plan, wishing to keep her child, she was eventually brought to understanding by Wiraqocha Rasca assuring her that when their plan was fully enacted, she could choose a favourite Servant, including Gryphon, to have by her side; her only condition being she could favour them, obviously, but could not treat them in an obvious familial manner. They were to be a Servant, and though they were her son by blood, they could not be her son by bond.

Gryphon underwent in-depth and severe mental conditioning, the truth of their identity hidden away behind Wiraqocha Rasca’s manipulation. They were conditioned to believe they were the first created Earthbound Servant, to explain away their more advanced age and larger size, and that their name was, in full, Earthbound Servant Geo Gryphon, their memories of Aslla Piscu and Ccarayhua as their parents removed entirely. Wiraqocha Rasca also altered their appearance, that they might hide the truth of their heritage: Cusillu was requisitioned, under careful watch from Wiraqocha Rasca, to enhance their body with metal, embedding it into their flesh so that none could see the intense resemblance to both Aslla Piscu and Ccarayhua in their natural face. Cusillu grafted a dark steel mask onto their head and a steel vest onto their torso, surgically bonding it to their skeletal structure. Wiraqocha Rasca allowed Cusillu some free reign in the design, resulting in the metal bars bolted to their helmet’s maw preventing them from fully opening their mouth, the maw-like metal bolted and screwed into their tail, and the thick metal-centred leather bands around their legs and wings. The bands themselves are not grafted into the bones as the helm is but wound tightly around their flesh to the point if Geo Gryphon grows any larger, they will begin to embed themselves in their flesh. It is because of these additions that Geo Gryphon is in constant pain, as Cusillu did not enhance them with any internal bolstering to keep the pain at bay.

Godwin had used the power of Yliaster to volley up the social ladder and become the Director of the Public Security Maintenance Bureau, but in the three years prior to the start of the series and up until Godwin’s death, it was the suggestions of Wiraqocha Rasca that controlled the city. Rex had originally intended to keep the war contained in the Satellite, where the only ones in danger would be “those who live there (who) are used for the sole purpose of recycling all of the garbage we (Neo Domino City) discard.”; Wiraqocha did not approve, as it was their plan to destroy all the world, but insidiously suggested that Godwin use the people of Satellite as sacrifices, knowing full well that Yusei would be angered by this (thus potentially losing to their child, Ccapac Apu) and that it was their plan to convince Godwin to duel in the centre of the city when it was their turn to fight.

As humanity began to worship Quetzalcoatl more and Viracocha less, eventually leading to the emergence of the People of the Stars, hate for the humanity they had created began to foster. As their worship diminished, they began to change in both body and spirit. Their heart blackened, as did their outward appearance, transitioning from a great condor of natural colouring who radiated light to a great black beast, their flesh demarcated only by the ruff of white feathers about their neck. It was not an instantaneous transformation, with the black bleeding like ink across their form over time; it was not until their final outrage, the rise of the People of the Stars and their worship exclusively of Quetzalcoatl, and their decision to create their own dark children as Quetzalcoatl had their dragons, that the black colouring consumed them completely, the lilac demarcations across their body emerging in a terrible, sickly light, erasing the once-kind Viracocha and giving rise to Wiraqocha Rasca.

Humanity’s belief that Viracocha simply left, promising one day to return, and that they are watching over the world even in their absence is not entirely false. Wiraqocha Rasca still maintains an eye upon humanity, but it is a foul one, filled with hatred and rage. They watch as humanity falls to their influence, perpetuating war and famine and destruction, and as Quetzalcoatl still promises their false light. They honoured their promise to return, but upon the wings of shadows over those of light and good; they joined with their children in assaulting the Earth over and over until the People of the Stars prayed for respite and became the first Signers, the Signer Dragons sealing the Earthbound Gods within the earth for five thousand years.
