Why I love Recess, especially Miss Grotke
Images 7, 8: she’s a feminist
Image 5: notice how she’s talking about endangered species and on the wall, there is a poster of Earth Day
Image 6: she’s aware of and against white supremacy and eurocentrism
Images 2, 3, 4, 6: history teachers are technically not allowed to give their opinion they’re just supposed to teach what’s in the books, but she doesn’t care and makes sure her students know it
Colorized version here [x]
I happened to come across this though I think someone referenced it in an inbox message, butyeah

The Abandon - Pilot Episode (Original) (by Keith Adkins)
TV writer Keith Josef Adkins was told by the studios that black people don’t do sci-fi. So he’s funding his own webseries, “The Abandon,” to prove them wrong.

Title: Homeless Mother A homeless mother with her baby rides on the back of a jeepney after begging from the passengers on a street in Manila on December 24, 2010. The number of Philippine families that reported suffering any kind of hunger from April to June, 2010 stood at 21.1 percent, accounting for about four million families, Social Weather Stations said, or roughly equal to 20 million people. Trope of the Day: Fantastic Racism
"Fantastic" as in "Fantasy" not as in "Great".
A subset of the old trick of dealing with thorny issues through metaphor. Instead of having the hero encounter racism between, say, whites and blacks in the American Deep South, or between ethnic Czech and Roma in the Czech Republic, or between Ainu and Japanese, or any other sets of real-world groups, they encounter racism between two-headed aliens and three-headed aliens, or between Elves and Dwarves, or Werewolves and Vampires, witches and wizards, humans and super humans or humans and intelligent robots, or even robots and robots.

Have I mentioned recently how much I fucking love Haruka?
Every time I think I can’t possibly love Haruka (or Naoko) more, well, here’s where I find myself. Loving her (them) just that much more.
Ummm...
Are interns, temps, and freelancers the new housewives? Maybe — or, at least, maybe it's helpful to think of them that way. Perhaps we should analyze the precarious nature of their careers —

The first official promo image for Star Trek Into Darkness shows Benedict Cumberbatch's mysterious villain John Harrison locked in a plexiglass brig. Which means that John Harrison is joining a long and proud tradition:

Woman Accused of Hate-Crime Murder in Subway Push
A law enforcement official said a 31-year-old suspect in the death of a man who was crushed on Thursday by an oncoming train in Queens “told the cops it was an act against Muslims.”
I take the 7 train almost everyday. Every racial and ethnic group, nationality, continent religion, and identities are represented in the commuters who take this train to their daily hustle.
Yet it is pretty fucking far off from our Disney "It's A Small World" fantasy. A Latina pushed off a Hindu man from behind into an incoming train, saying she hates all Hindus and Muslims ever since 9/11.
Queens.
Outcasts from all parts of the world drift to this little parcel of land, but this incident dampens the rosy colored vision I have of my borough.
Haters live here just like any other place.
