Speech Happens

When I was in high school, I competed in every event I could and did as well as I could. The result? I am now an over involved college kid, who dies everything I can, as well as I can. One of the best ways speech and debate teaches you to become resilient and tenacious is by giving you the opportunity to enter supplemental and consolation events, forcing you to dust yourself off, in very short order to compete in something else. My children would rather sit around watching out rounds, rather than compete. In general, they would rather 'focus' on one event, than expand, explore and make their team more competitive for awards. They constantly bad mouth the head coach behind her back and show zero respect. They are going to give me an ulcer..

I think it's important that we remember that privilege is not a zero sum game and while there are many privileges that are afforded to men, there is also a great deal that is not. Women have access to these 26 programs by virtue of being born in the US, Men have no access till they give the government permission to sacrifice them. Forced matyrdom should not be a condition for citizenship.

There are some people you've just gotta cut out. They seemed worth it, but they're toxic. (Aka literally every speech girl I've ever tried to date)
