For the love of My Morning Jacket

When I was working on the track, I was thinking a lot about My Morning Jacket, and how everything they do, every sound is louder than the last, and somehow it feels like everything is just fucking massive. And that's the feeling that I went for.

We recorded a ton of stuff which I think is going to be two records, but they’re not related to each other. It’s not going to be like a double record or an A & B, but or goal is to put out two records quicker this time instead of three or four years in between.

Is there a tumblr for the one big holiday Mexico? I am thinking of going and want to chat with ppl that are going.

My Morning Jacket was recording next door to us, and on a whim, my brother said ‘I’m gonna send Jim a tweet and tell him to come play a solo.’ Five minutes later, the engineer gets a text that says ‘Here comes Jim.’ He shows up at the door, and I ask him if he wants to play a solo, and he says ‘That’s why I’m here!’ He walks in, plugs a bass into some pedals and a guitar amp, and in one take he helped dictate the entire vibe of the recording.

We're blessed enough to have such a diverse audience participation, seeing 40- and 50-year-olds along with 16-year-olds. Nerds and jocks and hippies and preppies, indie-rock kids and punk-rock kids, they all seem to come out to the shows. I don't feel a particular exclusive allegiance to any of them. I think it's part of a greater musical collective.
