Sorry for disappearing for like a year
“Aya.” I groan, approaching the child on the floor.
“Don’t get dirty now!” I tell her, taking the drool-ridden toy block out of her mouth.
“Let her have some fun.” Jayson says, walking in the living room with Mia in his arms and Deuce following behind.
“She’s gonna get her new dress dirty.” I pick her up and get off the floor.
Jayson and I were hosting Thanksgiving dinner at our house, for the first time since we’ve gotten married. I’ve spent the past days cleaning the house top to bottom, curating the perfect menu, which included painfully slow cooking a family-sized turkey, and most importantly, getting the perfect outfit for all our kids.
Mia and Aya were our one-year-old twins, and I had dressed them in a matching dress that coordinated with Deuce’s cute little suit.
The guests were supposed to arrive any minute now, and my stress levels were through the roof.
“Don’t worry about it, babe. I’ll handle it.” Jayson picked her up and walked upstairs, with Deuce following behind.
He’s so good with our kids really, he’s a dream.
As I fix up the last of the decorations and details, the first bell rings.
“Here we go!” I mumble to myself.
Two hours later, everyone’s fed and happy. All the kids, little cousins and nieces are playing in the living room while the adults sit back in the dining room. I’m absolutely ecstatic about the way it all turned out, seeing how stressed I was in the days upcoming this holiday.
“I must say, this is a beautiful turnout.” Jayson’s aunt notes.
“Thank you.” Jayson and I acknowledge.
“And you’re daughters are just so cute. Honestly what a beautiful family you two make.” My mother chimes in.
I chuckle lightly under the appreciation that we’re getting.
“I told him he had a good one right there, I’m glad he didn’t fumble his opportunity.” Mr. Tatum laughs, patting his son on the shoulder.
“Thanks, dad.” I sense the slight annoyance in my husband's voice but he says nothing, keeping it lighthearted.
I lay my head on his shoulder, nervously trying to back out of the spotlight.
“I’ve said it many times and I’ll say it again; I’m glad these two found each other.” My mother starts.
I know she’s about to start on a long rant but I do nothing to stop her. Hey, I love my husband and I’m also glad we found each other, probably even gladder than my mother. I can say this Thanksgiving was perfect, and it’s really all because spent it with those I love.
From the dining table, I catch a glimpse of our children playing together and my smile widens.
“Good job babe. We did it.” Jayson whispers to me only.
