a soft patter of rain was heard on the window beside the table, somewhat drowned out by the flutter of notes and newspaper clippings shuffled in front of Elias. to rearrange the Vault here of all places wasn’t his smartest decision, except he was DESPERATE to find the last article he’d put in the folder ; the latest death of a police officer in Hawkins. with the mess of notes set to one side, he could have sworn he’d tucked it in neatly beside the rest. a quick shuffle through them proved him wrong. the article was nowhere to be found. for close to ten minutes he sat in a mess of nervous energy to rifle through things.
when his chair was pushed out, scraping along the old tiled floor, he was fortunate enough to spot it then in desperation for a fourth hot chocolate. underneath his feet and grubby from a shoe print laced with mud, he swore momentarily before he reached down to pick it up. straightening, his head clipped the edge of the table. “ OW! shit! ” Elias hissed, turning around to see if anyone stood nearby. just his luck, there was. “ um … sorry to curse in front of the kids. ”
the relationship they shared with the library was somewhat of a love-hate situation, they hated that it FORCED them to be silent, yet they loved the endless source of information and the access to technology not available elsewhere. it wasn’t anything fancy, but it did the trick. the recent events had admittedly excited teddy more than they ought to have, and while they of course had sympathy towards those close to both matthew and the officer, they themselves were more curious about the lab and WHAT was happening. So, naturally, Teddy was hoping to find more information. soon, to be consumed by the facts scribbled throughout textbooks, encyclopedias and more, they were sure with due time their head would simply explode.
as teddy scanned the shelves, pulling out one book after the other, only to put it back in disappointment, a FAMILIAR voice interrupted their frenzy. slamming the book back into place, they followed Elias’ voice as it echoed against the walls of the library, a smirk curving upward onto soft, glossy lips. “ i think the least of our worries these days is the insane amount of cursing going on, if anything, kids should be starting young with what’s happening. don’t you think?” it was better than them disappearing, teddy thought to themselves, refraining from voicing the thought aloud. “ anything interesting?” teddy pried, lifting a paper from the table as it caught their eye.
