one of the many problems with 'listen to x voices' rhetoric is that in order to be in the diaspora & gain citizenship in the first place your family often has to conform, to some degree, to western policy regarding our home countries & then those are the most plentiful voices in the west who talk about our countries. they will try to convince you that this is "the true voice" of the people of that country but they will gleefully advocate for foreign interventions that result in the widespread destruction and looting of their home country + they will position themselves as the greatest victims in all of this. but they clearly do not view the people back home with any kind of genuine solidarity or kinship only as pawns in their own personal narrative (revenge for an imagined alternative life back home, one where you still owned land or a held position of power there) and an opportunity to seize power for themselves. & then people in the diaspora develop a complex when people back home don't like them and don't agree with them & start claiming that everyone in the home country is brainwashed and the only way to free them is by invading and bombing everyone. they don't even view their cousins and family back home as real people, in this type of person's mindset simply by coming to west you are made real in a way that the rest of the world is not, it's sickening. and i know this song and dance very well like i'm in the western diaspora and the amount of ppl i meet who position themselves as progressive people but on the topic of foreign policy re: the home country sound like they work for radio free asia and are on the cia's payroll and chomping at the bit begging canada and co to bomb their country of origin is completely insane & if you even try to push back against this you're socially ostracized. same people will do land acknowledgements and then shun you for not supporting our government warmongering overseas it's just maddening

Despite your political views, know that it is not a good thing that the United States of America just decided to send an air strike to multiple cities of Venezuela at 3am in the morning of January 3rd, breaking several local and international laws in the process. As a caregiver, I'm tired of people asking,"Do you wipe ass for a living?"
This isn't inherently because it's disrespectul to my job, though it is and us caregivers do SO much more than that; we're taking care of people. That's 10% or less of the job.
It's the genuine DISRESPECT of my clients that bother me.
Do NOT speak about my client like they're a dog. "Do you wipe ass for a living?" You could not have phrased that in a more insensitive, ableist, and dehumanizing way.
Incontenience care is NORMAL.
It is NOT gross, weird, immature, or anything else besides normal.
My clients have felt ashamed for normal things like needing their briefs changed or having to do toiletry and everytime I reassure them they're completely fine and not doing anything wrong. It breaks my heart to see them so embarassed over a normal bodily function, esepcially when they still feel so even though I signed up to do this.
Maybe the elderly or disabled wouldn't be so ashamed of basic things that ARE normal if people didn't make it sound like it was the most absurd, repulsive, and gross thing ever.
Please be mature. If you are an adult and cannot comprehend someone needing toilet assistance without making it weird or sound gross, then you really really need to grow up.
I don't really like making aggressive sounding posts or scolding posts, because every single person is learning and we all make mistakes, but gosh guys, this really bothers me.

So much of the world's "riches" came from Latin America that it really makes the mind dizzy. You see all those palaces in Austria and you would think they are as far from Bolivia as possible and then you remember that the Austrian Habsburgs ruled the Spanish Empire and partook of the loot of the silver and gold from the Americas. When you really realize the scale of it, the entire line of history bends around it.
I am very afraid for our safety here. I wish we could leave, but my mother won't until she reaches retirement age, which is three years away.
