"Well, i-its just three kids drawing on cardstock paper. It's not like a rival business rolling into town. Ha, h-haha..."
Second by second goes by, and with each second comes more suspicion towards this strange man.
Figment of her imagination or not, something was certainly amiss.
Especially with the way he was looking at her with those narrowed eyes.
When he scooped up the toy wagon, that gave Addy the chance to start taking steps back. Even the way he leisurely wound up the toy was unsettling. What should have brought joy and wonder only brought...fear.
"Uh...t-thank you?" She replied to the odd comment about her having half a brain.
With each click, she took a step back towards the stairs.
Even with the front door being closer, she couldn't just leave her mom alone with this thing! What if, what if it ate her up like the boogeymen of old? Or tried to steal her away?
No, she would not run like a coward! She'd protect her mom!
Against what...she...still didn't know.
"...So you're with t-the two men who were in town? Why did they s-send you here? And what are you gonna do?"
That sounded just appalling! Those two were mere businessmen. Surely they aren't that afraid of a couple of kids with crayons and paper!
Sure, they did protest their business, but had they really done that much damage that they called upon this monster to teach them a lesson? On what? Not looking out for their city?
Her question as to what he was going to do was answered swiftly as he placed the wagon down onto the mantle.
Bright blue eyes stare intently at it, watching the hatch flip out.
But lo and behold, it wasn't just a mere toy! No! Once the hatch flipped, it was as if the mere toy was controlling its entire environment!
The shadows twisted, the colors warped! What had initially been a dark, albeit cozy, living room quickly shifted into a place of nightmares.
Addy's hands flew up to her glasses, and she quickly cleaned them, then placed them back on...only to see that the blurry effect would not go away.
She'd seen more than enough. She turned and bolted back towards the stairs without another word to the green monster.
This was but a nightmare. That's it. This kind of thing only happened in awful nightmares.
She'd crawl back into bed, and that'd be the end of it. Surely it would!
