When they lose the people in the train, Zoey says "we can't do this without your voice". Not "without you". Your voice. It's unusually pragmatic or her to speak of Rumi in those terms. It's a cold kind of selflessness, she has to think of the bigger picture.

Then, when they're about to sing Golden at the awards, Rumi says "for the fans" (read: the honmoon), and Zoey follows with "for the world". Again, big picture selflesness.

But Mira? After the train what she says is the need to stick together. And before Golden she says "for us".

And that was never going to work. It was a superficial solution to a deeper problem.

They dreamed of freedom but that’s not what they would’ve achieved had things gone according to plan and Jinu not betrayed her. Jinu himself wasn’t even honest about what he was trying to be free from. So when Gwi Ma gets in his head after their song together he listens. As for Rumi, she may have found acceptance in Jinu but she still doesn’t trust her family (Zoey, Mira, and Celine - she was right not to on the last one tbf) or the world to accept her too.

They sing about facing their pasts and the root of their demons but they’re, in reality, just pivoting laterally. They’re STILL trying to get rid of the source of their shame instead of accepting it. It’s a roundabout solution, an extension of their negative coping mechanisms from before they met.

That’s what makes their relationship so bittersweet and interesting. It’s a genuine, kind relationship with love (however you interpret the nature of it) that they share between them. It’s rooted in a mutual understanding that they share because of their histories. It has value. But while that solace they find in each other is precious, their acceptance of each other still isn’t enough to help them accept themselves. It always had to be bigger than them. They couldn’t solve it on their own.

Maybe things could’ve turned out different, in another life. But they didn’t.

Rumi is such an amazing character. It’s rare that I connect with a character so deeply, but the way she’s written — raw, flawed, and painfully real — hits hard. Her insecurities and weaknesses don’t just weigh her down; they completely shatter her self-confidence, to the point where she literally loses her voice. It’s heartbreaking. Céline’s “education” didn’t make her stronger — it destroyed her self-esteem.

She cant accept her demonic heritage because it’s ugly, dangerous, a mistake. But it’s also part of her and her journey to accept that part of her that she hates so much comes with Jinu. He gives her a new perspective on her marks on who she is. That those marks don’t define her as a person but are still part of her identity.

But it also comes with Zoey and Mira. They both suffer from different issues but are also the victims of Céline lessons. They learned to be strong but at the cost of their mental health, their self esteem and even their relationship with each other.

And when you really look at it, Céline is just continuing a cycle of psychological abuse. One that probably started with the 1st Huntress. A legacy where self-sacrifice is everything. Where saving the world comes before your feelings, your mind, your life. But what makes this story so powerful is watching them finally push back. Watching them choose healing over duty. Watching them say, “We deserve more.”

It’s beautiful, it’s heartbreaking, it’s real.
