Dear, sweet Samsonas has gone over the Rainbow Bridge. He looks like such a sweet snuggle-bug (look at those eyes), and he even brings his own blanket. I hope he's curled up on some Drexel right now. Rest well, sweet Samsonas.

Why no, I wasn’t about to use this chair to leap onto the bookshelf. Why do you ask? 

I have a bad habit of anthropomorphism, and when I saw this adorable picture of our friend Ramsey, I did actually think, “Aw, Drexel is so giving and forgiving. All the shade we throw on Drexel, and Drexel’s all, ‘I will throw shade on you, too! Except, like, literal shade to help you stay cool in your tropical posts.’” And then I felt like a terrible person who doesn’t appreciate Drexel’s tremendous sacrifice. For about five seconds. I’m over it now. 

Venezuelan brother and sister diplocats Simón (left) and Eliza (right) get through a tough Ukrainian winter in Kyiv by spending a lot of time on blankets on the Drexel furniture. Simón and Eliza were previously featured on Fur in Service when we were posted in their hometown of Caracas. They have a special diplo background because as tiny kittens they were found in the embassy warehouse and rescued by a GSO employee.  

Turk is a new addition to the Foreign Service family. I know him in real life and he’s SO ADORABLE. And about five seconds after this photo was taken, he had already grown too big to fit under Kara. But I look forward to more photos of him exhibiting his perfectly shaded Kara Camouflage. 

Moka looks like the best dinner companion. Look at that attentive face! Moka wants to hear all about that independent film you just saw. Moka nods sympathetically when you bitch about the fact that it’s EER season again ALREADY. Moka makes sure your wine glass is never empty. Moka is the best. 

God love her if she appreciates those Kara cushions, too. Whenever I stretch out on the sofa to take a nap, my husband asks if I want a pillow. And most of the time I’m all, “Ehhhhh, I think I’m good.” Kara. She's just SO. AGGRESSIVELY. TEXTURED.

I love that Mouse has her own room. And that she seems Very Not Amused that someone has trespassed into her space. (Also love that her collar matches her eyes!)

The chair is uncomfortable but I’m not.

Husband: Why are you petting the computer screen? Me: I’m rubbing Mr. Hobbes’ belly! Can you believe how cute he is? And his round belly! It just screams “Rub me!” Husband: *concerned silence*
