A special thank you letter arrived today from Mr. John and Mrs. Barbara Giarretta of New Jersey. More than 7000 copies have been shared with law enforcement agencies in the United States. The letter reads: To All Law Enforcement Agencies Across the USA Our family wishes to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your dedication and service. In spite of all the restrictions put on law enforcement you still put on your uniform and go out every day to every call and put your life on the line to protect our families and communities. Our society would not survive without your service. Please stay safe and watch over your Brothers and Sisters. We pray daily for your safety. God Bless You! Former fugitive Shane Demetrice Woods was captured last night by the U.S. Marshal’s Southeast Regional Fugitive Force (SERFTF). Fulton County Sheriff’s Deputies on the Taskforce took Woods to the Fulton County Jail. 25-year-old Woods is a convicted felon who was out on bond. He was participating in his court case at the Fulton County Courthouse in Downtown Atlanta. In the middle of his murder trial on February 10, 2016, a motion was made by the prosecution to revoke Woods’ bond. The court took a recess and Woods never returned to the courthouse. The trial continued in his absence and Woods was found guilty. He was sentenced to life in prison plus 5 years. Thank you to all members of SERFTF who worked relentlessly on this case. We also greatly appreciate tips from the public.

Please join us in congratulating newly promoted Lieutenant Kenya Stokes (left). Lieutenant Stokes’ wife pinned on his new badge in a small ceremony in Sheriff Ted Jackson’s office on May 5, 2016. This was truly a family affair with Lieutenant Karland Stokes (right) proudly placing new shoulder boards on his brother’s uniform. Lieutenant Kenya Stokes and brother Lieutenant Karland Stokes have more than 40 years of law enforcement experience between them. Lieutenant Kenya Stokes is assigned to the Fulton County Public Safety Training Center where he is regarded as an outstanding instructor. The lieutenant is instrumental in preparing new staff members for work in the Jail and on the streets. Lieutenant Stokes is known for his high standards and love of physical fitness. His positive influence is crucial to the Sheriff’s Office. The lieutenants are talented musicians and often share those gifts with the agency during special events. The Fulton County Sheriff's Office is proud to have four F.O.C.U.S. Award winners for the first quarter of 2016. F.O.C.U.S. stands for Fulton One County United in Service and these deputies exemplify that everyday. Congratulations to Deputy Edwin Gonzalez, Deputy John Alvarez, Deputy Alana Banks, and Deputy Helga Bryant from the Alpharetta Jail Annex.

Congrats Lieutenant Butler! Promotion Day is a big deal at the Fulton County Sheriff's Office. Sometimes, there are large programs when many members get promoted. Sometimes, the way things work out, there may only be one person promoted. Today, Lieutenant Damien Butler was promoted by himself so staff wanted him to feel special as his accomplishments were recognized by Sheriff Ted Jackson and Command Staff. Lieutenant Butler's promotion became official today and he's the first person to receive a new rank in the year 2016. Sheriff Ted Jackson thanked Lt. Butler for his service and commitment. Sheriff Jackson told the audience that the Lieutenant earned the new rank by his performance and his perseverance during the grueling promotion process. Lt. Butler has proven to be an outstanding deputy who is known for his professionalism. The Lieutenant is the drill commander of the FCSO Honor Guard. During the ceremony, Chief Deputy Jimmy Carter praised Lt. Butler for his ability to stand at attention and hold a salute for long time. We salute you, Lieutenant Butler!
