They have not released any new albums since that year’s Clinging To A Scheme, their third full-length album released under acclaimed Swedish indie/twee pop record label Labrador Records.
But Carlberg says that fans can expect to hear some new songs tomorrow that the band have been working on.
“It would be boring for us and the audience if we played the same old songs,” he quips, adding that the new tunes will be more “uptempo”.
And while the Zouk show saw Carlberg and frontman Johan Duncanson play with their then keyboardist Daniel Tjader, who has since left the band, this time round the duo will be backed by sessionists Maja Karlsson on guitars and Mattias Friberg on keyboards.
Carlberg, who is divorced, admits that their upcoming album is a little overdue but assures fans that main songwriter Duncanson has come up with a lot of fresh material – it is just a matter of selecting the best tunes to fit a new album.
He explains: “We usually do songs quickly but the album needs to be the perfect combination of songs, so that’s why it takes so long to compile them.”
Like many of their previous songs, which contain snippets of dialogue from films such as 1983 hip-hop documentary Style Wars and 1993 alternative rock documentary 1991: The Year Punk Broke, the new tunes will also contain samples.
“Johan loves films,” explains Carlberg. “And I guess we both always had a cinematic view of music. We look at music in pictures.”
Hello everyone!
To everyone who's still following this blog, I'm sorry I've been pretty much neglecting this tumblr (and tumblr in general) for a while! :( Life/school/work just got in the way, and im sure many of you will understand.
But today I just want to give a shout-out to all The Radio Dept. fans on here to know the community is still around! As you know, the band has gone MIA for almost a year, and yes, we have been wondering where they've gone to too. If anyone knows the whereabouts of the band please don't hesitate to share it on here!
It would be nice to have some news.

Q: Your cover art fits the music in an abstract way. How do you come up with the covers? Do you know right away when you see what you want?
Johan Duncanson: It’s not always old photos. The Clinging to a Scheme, well that’s an old one. It’s from a documentary about the Vietnam War. I like it because it’s a really dreamy picture. Do you remember the David EP cover? – two people wrestling, very gay. I see the Clinging cover as a full-circling, sequel maybe, to the David cover because it has quite extreme homoerotic undertones.
