I Wish I Could Love You, a ScratchRose fan fiction by katmooneyes (continued beneath the readmore)
Rose kisses his cueball of a head softly, where his lips would be if he had a face. His hands are around her hips, his touch light. She wraps her arms around his neck, planting more soft pecks along the side of his head. "I love you," she murmurs between kisses.
"I know," he replies, impassive as she hooks a leg around his thigh. Her breath comes in quiet pants as she caresses one of his arms, wishing he would at least attempt to make a response.
They fall back onto a couch with a small umph, her laying on top of him. She lazily traces her fingers throughout the cloth on his chest, her eyes half lidded.
And right on cue, she whispers, "It isn't fair."
"What isn't?" He already knows, of course, but he asks anyways.
She lets out a long sigh, gesturing to their current position; her laying on top of him, his arms around the small of her back. "This." her fingers are suddenly curling into the fabric of his jacket. "All of this. I give it my all, and you just stand there and take it. It's almost like you have no mind." she buries her head into the crook of his neck. "It worries me sometimes."
The wonderous host sits up on the couch; she curls into him on instinct, as though he'll turn to dust at any second. "Being omniscient has its ups and downs, my dear," he tells her, stroking her platinum blonde hair, "and one of those downs happens to be the fact that I cannot have emotion. It would take away from my purpose." he takes a breath and continues, "But trust me, I—"
And the inevitable tears stop him mid sentence, right on cue, as it were. Her shoulders are shaking, she's pounding his chest.
Rose's head raises to meet his nonexistent gaze, her makeup now smeared. She hits his chest again, with both hands, her eyes glistening with more tears to come. "Why can't I even.." her head raises to plant several desperate kisses on his head and neck, tears sinking like a waterfall down her cheeks. "Why can't it be fair?!" she asks, dams long broken. She sinks down, shaking, curling into herself with him cradling her like a baby. Tears fall freely down her cheeks, her head shaking over and over. "Why can't you feel anything? Why can't you respond to my touch? Why can't you love me like I love you?" she asks with a body wracking sob, pushing herself closer to him.
"I know how you must feel," he says in a low, comforting voice. "I am sorry I cannot return your emotions. I wish I could. I really do. I wish I had lips to kiss you with, eyes to see you crystal clear, a nose to take in your scent." his soothing voice is now accompanied by a soft hand caressing her face. "I would throw everything away for a chance to feel, my dear."
"Oh, how I wish that were true..." she whispers, eyes closing. Sobbing uncontrollably wears her out, and his soft touch isn't helping. She soon falls to unconsciousness, leaving him to continue holding her close to where his heart would be, his hand continually tracing the shape of her body. "I truly wish I could love you, Miss Lalonde.."
