I stumbled upon this blog quite by accident. I'm majoring in American history, but I'm taking Latin as my foreign language and I admit, I'm a little in love with the classics. Keep on keeping on! I love all of these <3

Hi, I'm a Malaysian student who's going to transfer to a university in the States next Fall and I'm planning to major in Classics. I should mention that I'm on a budget though. Can you guys give me some suggestions? Thanks.
Just my experience: I'm from Kentucky and I haven't really heard much of Eastern Ky's program. I went to Transylvania University and was a Major in Classics. I love both the major professors, Drs. John Svarlien and Frank Russell. Especially Frank. I truly loved my experience.
Anon who wants to know about American colleges! There are a TON of good programs out there. Wash U in St Louis, Boston University, Harvard, Yale, U of Cinncinnati in Ohio, College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, Eastern Kentucky University, Miami U of Ohio... These are ones i or my friends are attending, or NJCL convention has been at recently... i can't vouch for all the programs particularly, but it's a place to start. Good luck! Hit me up for more info any time!
Here you go anon!
this is fucking awesome. like really man this is one bitchin blog. im a fanatic for roman antiquity and a latin nerd to the core. applying to college soon. im assuming you're a classics major? where do you go, and what colleges/universities have the best classics programs
Nah, son, for a start I'm sixteen, and even worse I'm English and haven't a clue about American colleges XD

I love you and your blog. Nothing hurts. On the otherhand, I just finished my first year of Latin several weeks ago and we used the Oxford Latin Course textbook and I was wondering if you know about the Cambridge one?
Oh Cambridge Latin Course, I love you. Truly, madly, deeply. I have a friend with an unhealthy obsession over Grumio. Like all Latin courses, the stories were a bit mad, but I still love it. What's the Oxford version like?
In honor of Dr. Brown :)

One night my friend and I were websurfacing, and she came across a site she thought was in ancient Greek. It was actually Russian. “All the squiggles look the same.”
To be fair, it was really late.

The last line makes me chuckle: "everyone weep with me!"
I saw her teacher (who I had back in grade school) at my friends’ eagle ceremony and asked her if I could teach the class. Needless to say, she is pretty excited to have me teach the class.

So the Classics Croc image about the Latin lolcat ads -- http://fuckyeahclassicscrocodile.tumblr.com/post/3860971978 -- that's about me! I and one other grad student in my department used them to advertise our summer Latin courses. Our enrollment maxed out within a week. Also: my Latin students this semester, who've spent the semester reading Catullus and Caesar, had their final exam last week. One of the bonus questions was "What does this image mean? Why is it funny?" keyed to:http://fuckyeahclassicscrocodile.tumblr.com/post/3949514047A couple of my top responses: "It's funny because crocodiles don't usually read Catullus." And "Catullus 5 is about kissing, and Catullus 16 is about oral sex. You have to open your mouth wider for one than for the other, and the alligator's mouth is open wide. Thanks to you, instructor, I'll never be able to think about alligators the same again."
AHAHAHAHAHA YOUR STUDENTS CRACK ME UP!
I know, I know, it's how Cicero pronounced it. But really, screw Cicero, he was a douche. There is one country left that still uses Latin as an official language. They pronounce it like Italian: I pronounce it like Italian, and Google Translate agrees. BAM.
Don't ask why my Theology final is in the Chem building. Marquette University, tis a silly place. But I do spend a lot of time in the language building, so when I have an exam in the middle of the day, I just assume I should go to Latin.
