You hear the smile in Percy’s voice rather than see it— on account of you planting your face in your textbook.
“I just… so want to give up right now.” You gripe. Percy chuckles.
“We’ve only been studying for like, one hour.”
“That’s an hour too long if you ask me.”
“Once again, I agree, but you got your midterms, so come on. Up and at ‘em.”
Frowning, you pick your head up to find yourself face to face with an encouraging but lopsided smile.
Percy was faring better than you when it comes to studying this time— you don’t know HOW when he’s always the first to start whining— but his newfound perseverance is becoming somewhat of a good influence on you. Regrettably.
But honestly, how could you say no to that goddamn face.
“Fine… I’ll lock in for another ten minutes but after that can we please go?”
“Ten? You sure you’re cool with flunking?”
“Remind me again, is your professor grading on a curve?”
Percy’s grin is patient but razor sharp around the edges. He can play this game all day with you— and he likely can since the library’s open late at this point of the semester, and he knows that you know it.
Huffing, you start to burrow yourself into your notes, more upset at how weak you are around him than the exam looming over you, when he lightly taps the butt end of his pencil to the table.
“Tell you what?” He starts slowly. It was only the two of you in the study room, but Percy’s volume drops for a quiet secret. “My wallet’s not gonna be happy with this buuuuut if you study for one more hour… I’ll treat you out.”
You scoff. “Something from the cafeteria, I’ll bet.”
“If that’s what you’d prefer, but nah… I’ll get you whatever you want. We can go wherever you want.”
Percy lifts and drops a shoulder when he swears this. Casually, almost dismissively, but his little addition of “just you and me” said softly at the end (maybe even tentatively as he glances at you from under his messy bangs)— yeah that you couldn’t dismiss.
There’s a beat, one that passes with your heart thumping a little harder in your ears, and your attention drifts down to the book you’ve been wanting to abandon.
In your peripherals, you see the flash of a ring as he extends a pinky out to you.
Sighing, grumbling, squeaking— god whatever the hell that noise you made was—, you curl your pinky around his and seal the promise. Both of your holds loosens but your finger and his stay touching, and even though you were doubled down on your study material, you knew Percy was smiling without even looking.
