And I remember binge watching a good deal of episodes on the computer anytime I had the chance.

But there was one episode I couldn’t finish… And that episode was none other than “Beauty and the Beat”.

While I don’t remember just how much of the episode I saw, I do know that there were two things that made me unnerved: one of them was definitely watching Bushroot slowly transforming into a plant-duck (and slow transformations usually make me unnerved for how slow they are).

The other was all the cruel teasing from his colleagues.

Before I started high school, I was constantly the target of much teasing from my school mates: they told me I was fat, that I talked to myself, they teased me because I liked talking to bugs…

So, when I saw a character that loved nature being made fun of like this, I felt it was too much to watch. I didn’t manage to see what actually became of those doctors back when I was younger, and, if I did, I wouldn’t put it past him, back there.

So, yeah, I think that Bushroot has always been a very relatable character to me, so relatable that I couldn’t bear to watch him go through that in his origins episode.

But, now that I’m older, I see through him how much I’ve grown since then: I’m working on my emotional maturity, I’m forming lasting friendships with more people, I’m working on my anxiety, and I’m trying to feel less of a victim, and more of an proactive person.

So, thanks, Bushroot: I probably didn’t realize it that soon, but it’s thanks to you that I see how far I’ve come since when I first started to watch the show.

There’s chance for you too: if I’ve managed to bond with people and become more loving towards myself, so can you. We both deserve this.
