Been trying to reread The Night Compass and I noticed the repeated descriptions of Yasha as cunning/calculating everything he says and does to go his way or have the most impact. Then when Barclay reminds him of that one scene with Yasha saving Barclay in the Desert I realized that for that scenario to align with Yasha's otherwise built up character/how he acts, he either

1 ) CALCULATED in the SPLIT SECOND decision time he had, that he could save Barclay from the magically-induced sinkhole AND brush it off as a trick to Audrian so he wasn't suspicious of him being too friendly with the enemy or something

2 ) For once he DIDN'T think things through when he went to save Barclay, and the "you tricked me!" Was his "oh shoot I screwed up (but not really) but Audrian is gonna be so suspicious what do I say to cover this up quick-"

Or maybe Audrian meant that to happen (he sure doesn't seem stupid) and let Yasha save him to give Barclay more to lay awake about and overthink to maybe end up joining them lol

I like the idea that Audrian DIDN'T plan that though, because the implications for Yasha's character...

And in TNC the "I always do the right thing" and Barclay's "no, you don't. But I think you try to" Oh my GOSHHHH-

Grinded my way through 22 frames since my last update but the problem is I'm bad at estimating and the total went up lol- we're now at 33 out of something like 70-75 (help) but hey that's like half way, almost!! we are COOKING-!!!

If you've read TNC you can probably start to guess what scene animatic this is about... perchance... (a good bit of the animatic is gonna be pretty close to the book action-wise! Not exactly word for word, but this frame definitely is. Probably gonna include some direct quotes in the instrumental of the song too)

Barclay is looking forward in the frame before this and took a step back, it highkey looks like he's looking at Root here because he's scared of him, but he's just looking behind him because he's looking to see what he bumped into lol

So I've been watching Diaries (for the first time mind you- yes I'm a decade late this is fine-) and Laurence has already been my favorite character so far.

But oh my Irene. They gave him a savior complex? With THAT set of trauma, romantic feelings, occupation, and general emotional turmoil??!

So uhhh this drawing happened (why do all my experimental poses and expressions that end up going really hard come from Aphmau fanart lately lol) and now I love him even more let me hug that man he needs a break GAHHH-

His crashout has been living rent free in my head all day help. The way he responded also lowkey reminds me of the Great Gatsby's "can't change the past? Why of course you can!" It's the same mentality (do you see it?? Or am I delusional lolol)

I saw someone draw him with pointed ears as like a post-nether thing and I thought it was cool so I added that too lol. I was gonna give his eyes a bit of red too but I didn't wanna screw up and not be able to erase it sighhh... and it is NOTT showing up well in the photo for some reason but I SWEARRR I shaded Aphmau's skin gang! I know she is not white!! Please don't come at me ty!!)

Thing I drew with a bunch of characters and motifs from some of my favorite books, series, or fics I've read over the years! Explanation of what's what and their respective books + authors are under the cut! I know at least one or two of these fandoms is the kind with a lot of drama, but know that I don't keep track of that stuff, I just enjoy the story and/or characters! Don't come after me thank you!!

I'm also probably not going to tag every single book that appears here since this is a multi-fandom piece (it might be confusing for someone recommended it who's only in one of these), some of the books are represented only by a small object in a corner, and some of these are so small they highkey probably don't have tags lol

Remember when I mentioned an animatic... here's a frame!! in case I don't finish for 2378 million years bc I'm a freaking perfectionist and I'm trying to make them recognizable *explodes* (11/~60 ish frames done so far tho!!)

This is the apprentices spending time together at the Sea btw :3 (and dw this is the one instance of fluff in the entire animatic the rest is Barclay and Yasha angst because their suffering fuels me /silly)

I also wanted to share this bit bc I spent too long on it and I'm too proud of it, is too cool to only appear for like three seconds-!!! (I literally never do shading/lighting idk what has possessed me for this lol) Don't even know HOW long it took because my animating software doesn't tell me and I forgor to look at the clock lol

Been collecting my doodles from throughout the year and found this one I totally forgot I did of Marinette and Adrien but kitties lol (this is a recurring theme it somehow happened at least once every year for the past three years and I'm not even doing it on purpose??? They just kind of appear??)

Been experimenting with characters that have animal ears on people bodies recently bc for some reason that was not working with my style like it used to but I figured it out now :D

Like you don't know how long it took me to find just TWO OF THESE among an entire basements worth of legos. They're apparently just barely not old or common enough that we have just a bag of them lying around unlike almost every other normal lego so I had to look up other sets that had them and yoink them from the other set >:(
