✱ PROPHECY.

✱    ———  indeed  ,  they  are  most  certainly  two  sides  of  a  cruel  coin.  if  not  ,  A  DOUBLE EDGED  SWORD.  eyes  cast  down  in  uncertainty  ,  fingers  playing  with  blonde  -  white  tresses  that  cascade  over  their  shoulder.  small bits  of  frost  and  snowflakes  appear  in  their  hair  , an  indicating  sign  of  nervousness  and  anxiety.  of  course  ,  with  such  a  master  of  the  skill  ,  they  need  not  to  worry  about  hurting  him  or  themselves .  

but  .  .  .  hesitance  lies  wake  in  their  heart  ,  images  of  deadly  scenarios  playing  softly  in  their  head.  the  disturbing  imagery  plays  at  the  back  of  their  mind  ,  a  shudder  crawling  up  their  spine.  swallowing  hard  ,  they  look  away  ,  forcing  themselves  to  think  of  happier  times.  if  they  learned  to  control  it  ,  then  better  times  could  come.  

FEAR  WILL  BE  YOUR  ENEMY.  DEATH  ,  ITS  CONSEQUENCE.  

they  put  their  hands  out  in  front  of  them  ,  examining the  power  they  hold  within.  AS  NATURAL  AS  BREATHING.  frost  covers  pale  white  digits  ,  and  elsa  notices  how  they  shake  ever  so  slightly.  they look  back  at  kuai  liang  ,  a  mix  of  emotions  swimming  in  crystal  blue  eyes.  

❝     it’s  incredibly  .  .  .  frustrating.  all  my  life  i  looked  out  a  frosted  window  ,  seeing  the  moon  and  the  sun  do  the  same  dance  every  day  and  night  ,  and  all  i  could  wonder  was  if  i’d  be  able  to  dance  someday  too.     ❞

✱    ———  in  whole  ,  they  understand  ,  in  entirety  ,  they  know  it’s  too  bold  to  assume  that  he  and  they  were  the  same.  elsa  casts  their  eyes  down  ,  holding  their  own  hands  as  they  reflect  on  what  he  said.  I  AM  DIFFERENT.  that  rang  true  for  the  monarch  ,  as  they  sit  on  this  earth  , BORN  OF  COLD  AND  WINTER  AIR.  born,  not  cursed,  they  had  to  remind  themselves.  their  journey  from  babe  to  now  has  been  a  long  road  ,  and  it  still stretches  beyond  the  snowy  path  they  sought  out.  

I  AM  NOT  THE  SAME  AS  I  WAS  ,  that  was  also  true. no  longer  did  they  shut  the  door  nor  hide  behind  it  ,  no  longer  did  they  isolate  as  frequent  as  before.  they  have  friends  now,  real  friends.  they  have  anna  now.  living  ,  breathing  ,  anna,  who  was  at  their  rented  home  here  in  new  york.  I  AM  DIFFERENT  ,   yes  ,  they  were  different  .  yes  ,  eddie  was  different  ,  but  did  that  make  them  the  same  ?  did  that  automatically  make  them  similar  because  of  the  differences  they  ended  up  with  ,  NOT  ASKED  FOR  ?  

maybe  it  did .    

❝    i’m  proud  of  you  ,  eddie.  don’t  let  the  past  haunt  you  and  take  away  moments  of  today .      ❞

     she  was  beautiful  .  her  smile  alone  was  enough  to  render  the  keyblade  masters  often  composed  and  collected  mind  to  something  soft  ,  mushy  .  the  brief  bow  of  courtesy  to  elsa’s  title  was  partly  so  she  could  temporarily  hide  her  face  so  that  any  rising  color  had  time  to   fade  as  much  as  possible  .

   but  ,  in  time  she  rose  ,  knowing  that  spending  more  than  a  few  moments  bent  at  the  hip  would  raise  some  question  .  ah  ,  right  she  had  to  introduce  herself  .  what  was  her  name  again……

   “  I’m……  ”  her  thoughts  began  to  trail  off again  .  she  really  is  pretty  .  thankfully  the  fact  she  was  staring  again  hit  her  like  a  firaga  to  the  back  of  the  head  .  “ Aqua  !  My  name’s  Aqua  ,  and  uh  ,  anywhere  is  fine  .  Some  water  would  be  nice  ,  if  you  don’t  mind   .  ”  hopefully it’d  help  swallow  that  lump  in  her  throat  .

✱    ———  heart  rises  to  the  monarchs  cheeks  as  they  notice  the  other  staring.  consciously  ,  they  touch  their  face  ,  wondering  if  they  had  something  on  them.  the  other  was  quite  lovely  ,  though  the  monarch  didn’t  want  to  keep  the  silence  between  them  for  too  long.  

❝    aqua  .  .  .  that’s  quite  a  lovely  name.   ❞  elsa  smiles  again  ,  fingers  going  to  play  with  their  hair that  cascaded  over  their  shoulder. 

for  a  moment  ,  they  are  entirely  caught  up  in  the  others  endearing  disposition  ,  almost  forgetting  about  the  tour  they  promised.   ❝   right  ,  ah  .  .  .  let’s  go  inside  first.  then  i  can  get  you  some  water  and  i  can  show  you  around  inside  there.   ❞   elsa  turns  a  bit  too  quickly  ,  but  is  eager  to  walk  slow  enough  to  be  at  aqua’s  side  as  they  enter  through  the  castle’s  doors  ,  held  open  by  the  castle’s  servants.  

✱    ———  ❝   BEAT  THIS  ,  i  used  to  accidentally  freeze  insects  and  it  would  make  me  so  upset.  i  would  cry  ,  but  it  would  just  freeze  them  faster.   ❞   monarch  laughs  loudly  ,  grinning  goofily  as  they  lean  forward  in  their  chair.     ❝    we  used  to  have  a  housecat  named madam  kittycakes  and  once  i  accidentally  sneezed  and  got  snow  all  over  her  !  God  above  ,  SHE  WAS  SO  ANGRY  AT  ME.  and  ,  to  be  honest  ,  i  didn’t  blame  her.  i  would  have  been  quite  upset  at  the  ordeal  as  well.  she  didn’t  come  in  my  room  for  an  entire  week  ,  I  swear !    ❞

✱    ———  a  striking  blush  kisses  the  monarch’s  cheeks  ,  the  temperature  of  the  room  dropping  several  degrees.  they  swallow  roughly  ,  eyes  darting  from  the  ground  to  the  other.  hands  folded  politely  in  front  of  them  ,  but  they  are  fidgeting  anxiously.  the  ground  beneath  them  seems  to  begin  to  frost  slightly  ,  elsa’s  tongue  frozen  in  mouth.  THOUGHTS  DANCE  EXCITEDLY  WITHIN  THEIR  MIND  ,  though  they  wouldn’t  dare  to  speak  them  out  loud.

❝    ah  .  .  .  i  .  .  .  i  am  unsure  of  how  to  answer  that.  i  think   i  can  only  answer  it  with :  did  you  ?    .  .  .  .  did  i  look  bad  ?      ❞   soft  wheezing  laughter  comes  from  the  monarch  ,  sheepish  grin  kissing  their  lips  a  bit  too  eagerly.  fingers  now  go  to  play  with  hair  ,  tiny  snowflakes  forming  within  the  blonde  -  white  tresses.   ❝   would  hate  to  look  bad  in  front  of  SUCH  LOVELY  COMPANY.   ❞

he’s  …  um  .  in  a  robe  ,  post-shower  ,  a  little  awkward  as  he  fumbles  to  the  door  ,  with  no  time  to  jump  into  some  clothes                especially  now  that  he  sees  four  men  standing  behind  the  woman  who  knocks  ,  all  of  them  looking  like  they’d  like  to  beat  him  up  .  government  officials  ?  he  doesn’t  recognize  the  crest  on  their  jackets  ,  but  maybe  that’s  because  he’s  not  thinking  straight  .  sebastian  rubs  the  bridge  of  his  nose  and  clears  his  throat  ,  listening  .  professor  .  she  calls  him  professor         not  moran  ,  not  colonel  .  maybe  …  this  woman  just  knows  him  by  his  newly  formed  columbia  reputation  .  that  would  be  nice  .  ❝  excuse  me  ,  ❞  he  says  ,  brows  furrowed  in  confusion  ,  ❝  but  did  i  miss                                did  you  say  your  name  ?  have  we  met  ?  ❞  he  eyes  the  bodyguards  warily  as  he  waits  for  her  response  .

✱    ———    monarch  gasps  lightly  ,  placing  an  apologetic  hand  over  their  heart.  head  tilting  ,  a  genuine  apologetic  look  crosses  their  face.  little  to  their  knowledge  ,  the  guard  beside  them  scoffs  ,  but  elsa  is  already  holding  out  their  hand  to  the  other.   ❝    MY  ABSOLUTE  DEAREST  APOLOGIES  ,  i  am  elsa árnadalr  ,  queen  of  the  kingdom  of  arendelle.  i  tend  to  get  ahead  of  myself  and  forget  introductions  ,  so  i  am  genuinely  very  sorry  for  that  ,  professor.  we  haven’t  met  ,  but  i  am  here  to  talk  about  possible  private  classes  for  my  younger  sister  ,  anna.  she  is  highly  interested  in  your  classes  ,  BUT  WE  LIVE  IN  NORWAY.  i  was  hoping  to  set  up  an  online  situation  between  the  both  of  you  ,  if  not  flying  her  out  here  or  flying  you  to  arendelle.   ❞   there  is  a  pause  ,  eyes  glancing  down  at  him  for  a  moment  before  returning  up  ,   A  SHEEPISH  SMILE.    ❝    um  .  .  .  would  you  prefer  to  put  clothes  on  before  we  discuss  further  or  .  .  .  ❞

     in absolute contrast to her elegance and poise, sora was practically frolicking through the snow! it was in these instances where his child - like demeanor really shined through ; eyes kept dancing around their surroundings, feet shuffling around to kick the stray snow up! it’s only when the attention shifts onto him that he composes himself, a little bit. can’t be acting too silly in front of the queen! ❛  i think it’s the perfect amount of snow!  ❜ just enough to play in but not overbearingly cold! ❛  can we really? i’ve never built a snowman before!  ❜ he’s never done anything snow related, actually! ❛  can we have a snowball fight, too? and go sledding?  ❜

✱    ———  ❝    anything  you’d  like ,  sora !   i  truly  enjoy  spending  time  with  you  !    ❞   a  sincere  laugh  accompanies  their  words  ,  a  grin  on  their  face.  truly  ,  it  has  been  forever  since  elsa  has  had  a  snow  day  to  JUST  TO  BE  THEMSELF.  excitedly  bouncing  on  their  feet,  they  twirl  their  hands  as  snowflakes  and  shimmer  appears  from  their  fingertips.

❝   DO NOT SWEAR BY THE MOON, FOR SHE CHANGES CONSTANTLY    ❞

elsa represents the moon, and i hope to continue to incorporate more moon imagery / motifs in writing for them. as a hoodoo practitioner, the moon means a lot to me and so after examining elsa, i have decided the best motif for them is the moon.  

at its core, the moon represents femininity. the moon also tends to represent a higher consciousness and even higher unconsciousness. within this, the moon represents all that we are and all that we wish to hide. in a sense, the moon is everything and nothing at the same time. this varies between lunar phases but it is the most accurate way to describe elsa. 

elsa is simultaneously everything and nothing, they are both the beginning and the end, having the power to take life away and let life be reborn. elsa is in a continuous cycle within themselves. they begin at the new moon, a quiet time of reflection and in the stages of waiting for something to begin. they end at the full moon, which is at the height of their power, the height of their consciousness. sometimes they go through this process in a day, sometimes in a year, it truly depends. 

elsa, even if nonbinary, is still very feminine and thus represents femininity as well. femininity at its core is illuminated through the moon, for they are the maternal to the fraternal —— the sun. the moon is passive and does things in silence, as much does elsa. elsa works quietly, in silence. 

another aspect of the moon is the power that she contains, much like the power that elsa contains. the moon brings in the fiercest tides, not caring who she takes down in her path. elsa, with their magic, can bring in the fiercest of colds unintentionally. this can prove to be fatal to those who test elsa too far. much like the ocean, ice and snow can be beautiful to look at, but if you venture too far or too close, you may get swept up and fatally taken away.

elsa loved her parents for a long time, and i like to think as the years go on, that love lessens the more that she examines what she had to endure during her childhood. by abuse, i mean isolating elsa entirely from the world as well as forcing her to be in a cage.

in my canon, ive decided that elsa’s father was much more colder to elsa than seen in the films and other media. he isolated her on purpose, limiting her contact with even her mother and especially her sister. her father would keep her locked in her room for days on end, only coming in to give her food. at some point, elsa stopped trying to leave her room all together. elsa was treated more cautiously and coldly than anna, to the point where elsa continued to grow more and more afraid of herself and wondering what exactly was wrong with her.

her mother never really interacted with elsa after the incident with anna, seeing her daughter more of a burden and curse than seeing her as a person with a wonderful gift. iduna rarely had contact with elsa and kept mostly contact with anna. agnarr had more contact with elsa than anna, but kept his interactions with elsa very cold. it got to the point where anna and elsa started to begin communicating silently by anna passing messages and gifts under elsa’s door

agnarr would put a lot of pressure on elsa to contain her powers and keep them a secret, while still insisting that she gets prepared to be a queen someday. this put a lot of stress on elsa at a young age, thus putting her powers more at risk. agnarr blamed elsa for this, not realizing he was the main cause of elsa’s stress during this time of her life. 

once agnarr and iduna has died at sea, elsa’s powers grew stronger but more chaotic. elsa went into a deep depression after her parents had passed, and in some way, blamed herself despite her having no addition to the incident. elsa found some way to blame herself, going back to how she was ‘cursed’ and she was a ‘monster’ and somehow, that’s why her parents died. during this depression, servants could barely pass the hall that had elsa’s room due to it being so cold. elsa froze her entire room, and it stayed like that for nearly two years. 

because of her parents treating her powers more like a danger than a gift, elsa has kept her powers deep inside her for a long time. it is only until recently  [ the events of the first frozen film ] do we see elsa come out about her powers. elsa has kept them locked away and contained for so long that when her powers are intentionally used, they are elegant and graceful. elsa means no harm with her powers, and that’s why we see her flourish in the sequence of ‘let it go’

i believe thats why elsa absolutely went hogwild during the sequence of ‘let it go’. she’s been hiding her powers for over eleven years, and this was the first time she got to use them without worrying about her father or mothers eye on her. this was the first time she got to use her powers without worrying about hurting anyone. 

elsas trauma with her parents is evident though, and very much in sync with the symbolism of ice / snow. elsa, despite being this truly powerful being, is messy and chaotic at the core, and not as elegant as she makes you believe. she has learned over her years how to build walls and close doors, but if she slips up, she regresses, and easily becomes a vulnerable child once more. while not anything can trigger her, it’s very evident that one thing can lead her to break. while she is truly a powerful and deadly force, standing strong, one wrong move can make it all come crashing down.
