Ā Ā Ā Slender fingers curling around the arrow that balanced delicately between my fingers, emerald eyes followed the bear closely as it stalked through the deep brush below, invisible to most from my perch high up in the tree. It was easy to hunt from above. All you needed was patience. Patience, posture and stealth. But mainly patience.
Ā Ā Ā Drawing the arrow back, my ears twitched at the soft strain of my bow, raising it slowly to hone in on the beast, following it closely on its slow travels through the dense forest floor. Drawing in one last breath, I leased it, eyes widening as I noted the other arrow striking the beast from the left, a low growl leaving the back of my throat, though my body didn't stop as it reached for another arrow, sending it into the beasts hind before watching it crumple to the ground. I needed this. I needed the food, I needed the pelt. It had been far too long since my last proper meal.Ā
Ā Ā Ā Fixing the bow to my back, I swung down onto the branch below me before dropping to the ground, pulling the dagger from my belt as my eyes scanned the forest for signs of the other archer. Catching a glimpse of movement as I approached the bear, my body dipping down into a a ready stance, eyes following the other being as they made their way out into the small clearing. "We have three choices here. You turn around and find another beast and pelt, we split the loot 50-50, or you're going to have to pull it all from my dead body," I spoke up, not moving an inch as they kept approaching, body tense and on edge. I wasn't much of a fighter, I was a damn good hunter, but I had only killed a man once and been beaten up more times than I cared to recall. However, when you come between me and the only bear I had seen in over three weeks, I was damn sure going to be protective of it's loots, regardless of how reckless it was. It was only fair to offer a split, they had both aided in bringing it down.Ā
