Random Notes From the Colored Section Ā© August 28, 2016:
1. Colin Kaepernick; taking a stand by sitting downā¦
2. Personally, I donāt get some of our rituals, especially those that involve men having to remove their hats. Christians say take off your hat to pray where Muslims keep their heads covered out of respect to God. Why the hell should I have to take off my hat and put my hand over my heart to sing a song to a goddamn FLAG?
3. Whatās really funny is 10 years ago- before my hair started thinning to the point of its current state- I would hardly ever wear hats. Today, they are a wardrobe stapleā¦
4. I knew Skip Bayless wouldnāt be out of work too long. Everybody I know hates to hear him talk- and he talks for a living- but we know how things work so heās got his own show on FS1 (Fox Sports) with Shannon Sharpe premiering next week. Should be interestingā¦
5. I feel sorry for Skip, though; he just left having to deal with Stephen A. Smith on the regular, and now he has to match wits with Shannon Sharpe⦠#Toast
6. I know it may not be as important an issue as police interaction, but I wish black TV personalities could be as controversial as Jim Rome and Skip Bayless and still get numerous lucrative work opportunities. Why canāt black people be themselves? Weāre ALWAYS held to a different standard, especially since colonized black minds hate controversial black people as much as our white counterparts. We canāt handle the harsh truth, eitherā¦
7. This is another brick in the āBlack Lives Matterā movement that gets overlooked in most conversations, but the fact remains that TV and movie execs believe white people wonāt watch- or pay to see- an outspoken, controversial black person. Equally important is the fact that weāre only 13% of the population, an unimportant number in the grand ratings structure. Itās also why āBlack-ishā has to be very careful in its story lines. The second they cross into something too controversial it will be castigated and snatched off the air faster than you can say āCat in the Hatāā¦
8. You know, I feel like if I had a couple billion dollars I could build a nice-sized NATION. For the life of me, I cannot understand how sports stadiums cost over a billion dollars to build. Crazy!!! Their effective lifespan is about 20 years before the greedy-ass team owner is asking the city to build him a new billion-dollar building to replace the not-so-old billion-dollar buildingā¦
9. Iām not a Vikings fan, but I truly love those matte purple helmets. I wish the Bears would do the matte navy, but thatās asking too much for a team with its helmet up its ass. Perhaps matte doo-doo brown would be a more fitting colorā¦
10. BTW, talking about my sports teams is kinda like the white people and the N-Word: I can talk bad about my teams, but youāre not allowed to say shit. Especially if youāre a Fuckinā Packers fanā¦
