On our way home last night, my best guy friend and I got into a pretty deep discussion about time. The whole, if I knew then what I know now, how different would things be? The more we talked the more I realized I wouldn't change a thing. I could rewind three years knowing everything I've gone through lately and I'd still make the same choices. I'd still make the same mistakes. I wouldn't choose someone else, I wouldn't run away, I wouldn't give up any of those feelings just to play it safe. Love is a scary thing because love means taking chances and compromise. Love means holding on when it's hard and sometimes putting yourself last. Love means taking risks and sometimes love means getting hurt and being left. I gave up everything for you and instead you put yourself first. You gave up on us even when I fought so hard to hold on. I loved you enough to let you go and create a life you thought you wanted. I loved you enough to believe we were tough enough to make it a year with some space between us. I loved you enough to put everything I've worked so hard for on the line just to wake up next to you a few days a month. I loved you enough to forgive you after it all fell apart. I loved you enough to try and understand how it happened. I loved you enough to be there for you still for this past year, to brush off your ego and listen to your problems. I loved you enough to want to believe you every time you called and told me you made a mistake, every time you told me you still loved me, every time you told me you'd do anything to change what had happened. And trust me, every time you've laid it all on the line and begged me to come down, I've considered packing my bags and boarding the next plane to you. I've thought about giving up my whole life for you again because I still love you enough. I love you enough that I just flew 1400 miles to see you. Back to the place where you completely shattered my heart almost a year ago. And now that I'm back home and I look back on the past 2 weeks and nothing has changed at all, I'm sad but not in the way I thought I would be. I still miss you, but you still have things to prove there and I still have a life I've started here and I understand that now. I'm not sure I'm in love with you anymore, but I still love you more than anything. So now that I know what I know, would it change anything? I'm older and wiser but does that really mean anything when it comes to love? Nope. Nope... My love for you has been the biggest lesson of my life. My love for you has made me a better version of myself. You letting me down has just made me build myself up. I wouldn't change a thing.
