Semi’s expression relaxed only a small amount, still tinged with anger, now mixed with a strange sort of solemnness. So she had told him. That was something he was unsure how to feel about–on one hand, Monsters should remember, so that they never fell into the trap of unawareness as his grandson was beginning to. On the other…somewhere in him he was glad the true horror of their existence and actions had faded into a sort of ‘bogeyman’ figure. Their kind had experienced enough fear for plenty of lifetimes.

With an almost inaudible sigh, Semi lightly tugged his face mask down. He didn’t like showing his face too terribly much–but if it helped him make a point…

“In fact, I nearly would have fallen in the War, thanks to them. Do you see my jaw, Wing?” He raised a finger and lightly tapped a crack on the right side.

“It used to be much, much worse. It’s a miracle I still have my eyesight. If not for…”

At that, he trails off, seeming to suddenly remember something painful. He swallows, looking vulnerable for a split second before coming to once more, reaching to grab Gaster’s shoulder to urge him to look him in the eye once more.

Gaster wanted to argue--wanted to protest--that humans could hardly be that cold anymore. But the words died before they even reached his mouth. He could hardly even look up from the snowy ground.

Yes, he had seen the humans who fell, and not a one who succeeded. He met the first--he never met the rest, but the first had seemed fine until they shoved him and tore him apart and he had died, he had died and he could never come back, no matter how hard he tried it was worthless and he would never be real again until he learned otherwise. The others, he only caught glimpses of--their falling, their trials, and their eventual defeat. Some lasted longer than others... the last one had nearly made it to the King.

What would they have done if they had?

He knew, or at least he thought he knew, that none of them meant harm, not really. They were scared and trying to get home, or at least to get out. Whether they'd heard the legends about the barrier or not, Gaster couldn't say.

But now, he wondered if it mattered. If it did, what could he do? Through the Void, he was powerless. He could only reach and change so much, unless he tampered with things that he preferred to forget existed.

Finally, painfully, Gaster looked up. His eyesockets were still wide, but the pinpricks of light were small and hazy.

4) No they’re not going to hate you if you have to drop the thread

5) Sometimes you have to unfollow people for a reason. Don’t feel obligated to stick around with something that upsets you

6) The people you’re scared to talk to are likely just as intimidated to start conversation
