From 300 Lbs To 170

Media companies promote and publish material that they know is controversial, usually in a positive spin. Eg X (X, being a controversial issue) is happening and he’s 5 reasons why it’s great’ so that some idiot (A) responds usually inciting hateful speech or not realising that their opinion is not universal and/or comes from a very narrow and limited world view, then other people (B) react viscerally to (A) because some aspect of their identity seems to haven been targeted by (A’s) words.

Both sides continuing arguing in the comments section perpetuating clapback culture where in the end both walk away angry but feeling vindicated having defended their opinions. However neithers opinion was changed and all their attention just ultimately increases engagement which is all the media company actually wants. There are literal millionaires profiting off your emotional toil and it’s fully calculated.

Let’s look at Gillette. We all know the ad. Do you think Gillette actually gives a shit about toxic masculinity? 🤔 this is a company who’s slogan is ‘the best a man can get’ literally about being the best, dominant. Their image is tied up in being ‘a man’. A company who names their blades after fighter jets (Mach 3) and nuclear science (fusion). Who’s only makes products in black and grey and blue for real men? Who divides their market between Gillette and ‘Venus’ for women. Can’t be having Gillette women now can we?!? This is a company that dominates gender marketing.

We’re all talking about the ‘Gillette’ ad, not the toxic masculinity ad. There’s a reason for that. Gillette doesn’t give a shit where you stand on the topic they just want you to know it’s a Gillette ad, bc familiarity breeds sales.

Maybe I’m pushing this too far but I remember reading a study that facial hair makes a comeback when men feel their masculinity being threatened. And facial hair made a comeback with hipsters in 2008 and has been around since with millennials, so we’re a decade later and my guess is we’re moving back to shaven faces being the thing. Ooooo bitch and gen z is just about to turn that age where they buy their first razor and my guess is Gillette is positioning itself as the ‘woke’ company to scoop up that market.
