I’m watching The X-Files for the first time. Just finished season 1 episode 13: Beyond the Sea. What an episode! It’s an instant favorite. Before this, my favorites were Squeeze, and Ice. The pilot is great, too! It’s refreshing to see an episode where it’s not just Mulder knowing things while Scully’s in the dark and perpetually skeptical. If anything, it’s a brilliant first actual look into Dana Scully’s life and character. I found it reminiscent of The Silence of the Lambs (1991), and the performances Gillian Anderson and Brad Dourif did were phenomenal. It’s quite sad, too, but I believe it’s the first time we see Mulder call her by her first name? And you can see the yearning despite all the grief. I love this show, and I’m excited to watch more.
