question: obviously both sam and dean consider cas to be an irreplaceable and incredibly important member of their family. i think we can all agree. but cas is often not really seen to really understand or feel that within himself, so i was wondering: since he’s returned this season after he’d gone, the boys were really happy, clearly, that he was back. so i'm just wondering if cas has noticed that or felt more a part of the family than he has before?

He surrendered in all the ways that mattered.

Sneak Peek: Dean cleared his throat.

"So, uh. You work here?"

The man's gaze flicked over him, thoughtful.

"I do. Work here. Live here."

He lived here. Slept here. Bathed here. This was his universe. That shouldn't make Dean's stomach do whatever it just did.

"Oh." It came out a little shaky.

Another one of those weird pauses came up between them. The man used it to study Dean’s face unapologetically.

His gaze lingered on Dean's mouth. Traveled to his nose. Flicked up to one eyebrow.

Cataloguing. Sketching. Something.

"I'd love to pierce that face."

Dean blinked. Swallowed.

"Huh?"

"Your face was made for it."

The statement was delivered with the same casual sincerity of a business consultation. And that was probably what it was. That was what Dean told himself and his stupid weak knees.

Dean stared, mouth opening and closing a couple of times.

The man stared back, head slightly tilted.

"I have a needle phobia," Dean said intelligently.

That earned him his first smile, gummy and full of smile lines, and Dean felt like he just won a million bucks.

"That only makes me want to do it more."

Summary:  Now that Dean and Castiel’s twins have left for college Dean needs something to keep him from fixating on his kids growing up and his changing role in their lives. He begins spending his time at Whispering Pines Assisted Living where his Uncle Bobby lives. Finding himself drawn to the lonely Mr. Euna, Dean doesn’t notice the strange happenings in the nursing home until a resident ends up dead. It’s sad but normal right? And as long as Mr. Euna is okay, Dean will be fine. As long as he focuses on the things he loves, everything will be okay. Mr. Euna assures him that everything will be okay.

Excerpt: Nurse Alvarez presses the rosary beads into his hand with such force Dean knows each individual bead will have left an indent in his skin.

“He’s a demon,” Nurse Alvarez hisses. “He wants them. He wants their souls. But only after they feed their hunger.”

Dean feels water splashing on his face, noticing a bottle of water in her hand. “Take this. Put a drop in every drink, every drink you consume. We can still stop him.”

“He’s just an old man,” Dean whispers harshly. But he knows that’s not true. Or at least, he thinks there’s something weird with Mr. Euna when he’s not with the old man but once he sees him again, Dean forgets. Mr. Euna makes him forget. “He’s just an old man,” Dean repeats. His grip tightens on the rosary. “Right?”

The second piece in my little floral portrait series!

I went into this fully intending to give Dean the same soft, romantic melancholy as my Castiel with Peonies piece… and somewhere along the way this man apparently decided he was actually having a lovely afternoon. 😂 So we ended up with something much warmer, sunnier and softer than I originally planned… and honestly, I love him for it. 😂

The lilacs nearly sent me into the fucking stratosphere, but WE SURVIVED. And I’m ridiculously happy with how all that warm golden light came together in the end. 🥹💜

Also an enormous thank you to @mugenmegami for the endless support, guidance, second opinions, and for being my designated crisis partner every time I was approximately three brushstrokes away from screaming into the void. 😂💜 I genuinely don’t think I would’ve stayed sane through this one without you. You are the best and I so grateful for you! So this is definitely dedicated to you 💖🥰

Anyway. He’s DONE. I’m putting the pencil down before I find something else to “fix.” 😂

💔Broke me and rebuilt me 💔

Well, I'm feeling VERY Contender-brained (I'm FIXATED fixated on this fic series again), so I think I'll start with Heavyweight by @dochollidayed / valleydean for the broken heart!

Mostly because it starts in the RUINS of a DeanCas super betrayal/fight. It has that season 6 flavor and this is the kinda fic that gives you high highs and low lows and it is gorgeously written and makes you love boxing too! The era details are to die for...

I need to add it to my Rereadables list now, because I've been overindulging this month, and it's officially joined the club of mega obsession for me.

Brooklyn, 1927. The Golden Age of Boxing. Two years ago, light heavyweight champion Dean Winchester and heavyweight champion Castiel Novak had a secret affair. After a scandal tarnished Cas’ name and stripped him of his title, the two parted ways. Now, with a heavyweight tournament on the horizon, Dean aims to up his weight class so he can compete for the title. He finds unexpected competition when Cas comes out of retirement and returns to New York to fix his reputation. Upon their reunion, the two contenders learn that, outside of the ring, some bruises never really heal.

😂Made me laugh till I cried 😂

I'm gonna go with canticles by 2street2car.

It's early Dean and Cas going on something like a shitty date... in a parking lot.

This is one of the very first fics I read, AND it's definitely one of those where you're like, actively falling in love with the characters the whole time. Not only is it my comfort fic, but it has this ONE part where Dean looks over and Cas looks so so so foolish in that moment that you can't NOT fall in love with him.

🧐For making me think differently... 🧐

I'm going to throw these two at you. ONE: I said show me something by ilovehowyouletmefall / @angelinthefire. The writer and their writing is Theee Weird-kinda smart and it shows, but what sticks with me the most about this fic is Dean embodying the desires of others in order to sidestep facing his own... and the frightening shape of Cas's unhuman desire. It was just SUCH a cool take on it!

AND it's a thoughtful look at Cas's (imho) controversial line: "I did all of it for you."

TWO: A Communal digging of a very shallow grave (A WIP, and worth your time) - It's really challenged how I think about and sit with Dean's Hell trauma. This fic brings in the concept of DEAN having his own Hell-students too, and I think it blew my mind. Also, I realized I was sleeping on Alastair as a concept.
