The reaction wasn’t one she expected and it took her by surprise but Freyja smiled in reply, laughing lightly at the phrasing chosen. To Freyja it was just home, adorable little hamlet seemed to be pushing it a little! “I mean, sure, though I have just warned you that I rarely get out,” she admitted. “I’m Freyja,” she introduced, before realising that the other woman had given her full name, so perhaps she should too, “Freyja Alstrom.”

Freyja probably spent too much time and money at Bottled Heaven, but it was ethical and sustainable so she used that as her excuse, whereas the fact of the matter was, Freyja just liked nice smelling stuff. She was just standing at the bathbombs when she spotted her, Andie. She hadn’t seen the woman in a while, not since Freyja had all but abandoned her date to spend the evening flirting and smiling with Andie. She didn’t feel guilty though, her date had had as much personality as a paper bag and Andie was gorgeous, who could blame her. She smiled, making her way over, “well, I guess there are some benefits to a small town,” she stated, referencing the fact that they had managed to bump into each other again, despite never sharing phone numbers.

“– wrench.” beau’s nose is stuck under his motorcycle, brows raised up and covered in grim as he focuses on the intricate machinery that he’s only vaguely familiar with. there’s a pause and then he tries to specify, “torque wrench.” the unwilling participant he’s deemed his interim mechanic’s assistant is apparently supposed to know exactly what it looks like. he glances back, sweaty and smiling, and makes a small gesture with his finger. “the one with the little ‘o’ on the end. c’mon now, it’ll be worth it for a good ride.”

Freyja paused when she saw a man half under the bike, wondering if she should offer some assistance, she spent most of her free time fixing up her car and she had learnt a lot over the years. She then heard him ask for something and as she moved over towards the box he spoke again, this time clarifying, she was still waiting for a please or something when he then described it in detail. “I know what a torque wrench is,” she stated plainly, rather unimpressed, “but if you expect a stranger to help you then perhaps a please would be appropriate.”

if  only  she  knew  about  her  reason.  she  looks  at  her  and  huffs  a  breath  of  exhaustion  out.  eyes  blink,  eyes  look  hopeless.  it’s  not  that  she  doesn’t  trust  freyja  with  her  secret.  it’s  about  how  she  would  take  it.  pity  or  judgement  in  her  best  friend’s  eyes  was  the  last  thing  she  needed  back  in  the  day.  it  still  is  a  very  much  unwanted  thing  to  see  for  the  ex-model.  “  i  could  see  that  coming.  ”  she  says,  reacting  to  the  other’s  choice  of  caffeine.  “  wait  for  me.  ”  hoping  she  won’t  move  anywhere,  suna  gets  their  orders  ready  as  quick  as  possible.  “  i  doubt  you’d  like  to  share  your  coffee  break  with  me  but  –  ”  her  hand  holding  the  cup  is  extended  to  the  other  brunette.  “  i  wouldn’t  mind  spending  mine  with  you.  i  am  actually  eager  about  it.  ”  all  she  is  trying  to  do  is  make  it  less  awkward  ;  for  some  reason  it  feels  like  she  is  doing  it  all  wrong  nevertheless.

Freyja liked to think that she wasn’t judgemental but the fact of the matter was that she definitely harboured judges. She had no idea why her friend had just disappeared off the face of the earth, so she was mad about it. She knew that rationally there was probably a reason for it, but Freyja didn’t know it so her to her it was just rude. It wasn’t really a surprise that Freyja knew her coffee order, the same one that she had had for years. She nodded as Suna asked her to wait, she kind of had to if she wanted her coffee but she also wondered if maybe she’d get an explanation, maybe she’d have a chance to get her friend back. Freyja’s eyes wandered about, desperately seeking something to distract her. She accepted the coffee with a thank you, unsure of whether she was keen to spend time with Suna, it was a fight between her longing for a friend and her general stubbornness. “I don’t have anywhere to be, so why not,” she answered rather flippantly.

a gentle smile emerged on axe’s lips as freyja explained. quite rare, considering how irritable axe found most people, but freyja was different. she was one of the few in axe’s life who he found abundantly warm. being around her was easy. helping her was easier. she could bring boxes of donuts or nothing but her warm personality and axe would still find the time to walk out and fix her car for nothing. 

“ safe to say, it’s probably been about two weeks before that then. ” he smirked, coming out to the bug and popping the hood immediately. he’d been each way around this car by now, he was confident the problem was going to be underneath near the brakes. “ how ya been, bug ? ”

She returned his smile, very thankful that she’d found a friend in Axe, he was kind and very very helpful. Freyja had a tendency to collect people, she enjoyed company and having friends with different skills certainly helped her out from time to time, Axe had saved her ass many times when it came to the car, that was perhaps a bit out of her skill set in the first place.

Freyja laughed, he knew her too well, Freyja wanted the car in good condition but she also had a tendency to ignore small issues in the hope that they’d just go away on their own. She smiled at the nickname, Freyja had always appreciated nicknames, so she rather liked when people just picked one out. “Not too bad, same old same old really,” she admitted.

“Indeed…I admit, if I lived here, I’d probably never notice any of it if I were still working. The few projects I do take on tend to have me bowled over my design table like some sort of troll.” she laughed, turning to face the other woman better. “Have you had a chance to go to the Sunset Gardens here in town? If not, I’d suggest going sooner rather than later. They’re absolutely exquisite.” 

“Yeah, my work is very inside based, so I have to make a conscious effort to actually leave the house and office,” she admitted. She smiled, nodding at the mention of Sunset Gardens, “I have actually been here my whole life,” she explained with a soft smile, “my mom absolutely loves it there.”

━━━   ❛ ‎  ♡   he  needed  fresh  air ,  and  truthfully  felt  bad  for  constantly  bothering  meredith  at  work  without  buying  anything , heading  to  a  cafe  to  write  write  his  next  big  thing  felt  like  the  best  way  to  spend  time ; cliched , but  what  isn’t  these  days ? standing  in  front  of  the  counter , taking  note  of  the  bored  expression  on  the  barista’s  features  ,  that’ll  be  seven  dollars , gabe  pursed  his  lips  as  he  searched  his  body  for  his  wallet .  shit  ,  shit  ,  s h i t !

gabe  could  feel  the  weight  of  time  on  his  shoulders , anxiously  coming  to  the  realisation  he  had  left  his  wallet  at  moira’s  place . the  low  sigh  from  the  barista  only  added  salt  to  the  metaphorical  wound  on  gabe’s  ego . “  we  also  take  card  or  apple  pay . ”  a  drum  roll  of  her  ridiculous  set  of  nails  rattled  his  mind . 

of  course  he  knew  about  apple  pay , gabe  had  just  forgot  to  set  it  up  on  his  new , shitter  phone . 

“  yeah , thanks .  ”  gabe  grumbled . turning  to  the  person  behind  him , his  features  weakened  with  a  silent  plea . “  i  know  this  is  a  bit  awkward , but  i  can  pay  you  back  or  even  venmo  you , if  you  have  that  ?  ” 

Freyja waited in line, jostling from foot to foot as her impatience began, she wasn’t exactly annoyed at the customer holding her up, she just wasn’t particularly keen on waiting, especially when it came to caffeinated beverages and sugary treats. She overheard the conversation and had already pulled out her wallet, ready to step in when the man turned to her and  asked for her help. “It’s all good,” she said, tapping her card to pay for what he had ordered, glad that he didn’t have particularly expensive taste. “I am in here far more often than I’d like to admit, so next time we cross paths my donuts can be on you,” she declared.

She smiled at the waitress, who still seemed rather unimpressed by the whole scenario, and then Freyja made her own order. “I’m Freyja,” she said, “so you know who your guardian angel is,” she mused. It wasn’t the first time Freyja had paid for a strangers coffee, though usually it was a move, which in this case it certainly wasn’t.

Mira tilted her chin up to the sky, closing her eyes as the impact of what had just transpired. She’d been interviewed by the president of the college, asking her to teach costume design as a part of their theater degree program. Having never taught before, she weighed her options before coming in, assuming she’d only want to be an adjunct, not full time. Now? She wasn’t so sure. So much of her loved the idea of committing to herself to passing on her knowledge in the way so many before her had done. 

Her mind began spinning with the possibilities, and she found herself being rather in need of a chat. “Lovely day, isn’t it?” she mused aloud to the person near her, opening her eyes and looking at them with a warm smile.

Freyja spent the entirety of her work day inside staring at a screen, so she made a conscious choice to spend time outside when she could. With a fruit tea in hand she went for a walk, wandering the family streets, her wind whirring with thoughts on so many things. She was rather surprised when a voice spoke to her though, turning her body to look at the source of the voice. It was a rather nice surprise to see that it was a beautiful woman.

“It really is,” she replied, “sometimes I forget how nice outside is,” she admitted. Freyja had grown up exploring outside, her parents love for nature had rubbed off but as soon as she became more interested in tech she also left the outside behind. 

there  is  something  too  anticlimactic  about  expecting  a  taste  to  fill  your  mouth  in  and  something  else  suddenly  hits  you.  that’s  what  exactly  happens  to  suna  after  taking  the  smallest  of  sips  from  the  cup  with  her  fingers  delicately  curled  around,  trying  to  avoid  the  burning  feeling.  she  kind  of  feels  sorry  for  whoever  got  her  order  instead;  way  too  syrupy,  almost  hard  to  tell  there  is  actually  coffee  in  it.  little  did  she  know  that  the  one  who  got  her  cup  is  one  of  very  few  people  who  tasted  that  mix  of  hers  before.  freyja.   now  that  is  awkward.  add  the  fact  that  the  feeling  of  guilt  is  a  new  one  to  experience  for  sun  as  she  had  never  thought  she  would  need  it  in  her   life   until  her  cascade  of  mistakes.  which  only  makes  it  even  more  awkward.  but  that  moment,  that  unpleasant  motion  inside  her.  she  knows  that’s  what  guilt  is  about.    "  och  du  verkar  inte  vara  nöjd  med  det.  kan  inte  skylla  på  dig.  "  her  pride  and  attitude  trying  to  preserve,  but  she  knows  she  should’ve  handled  it  better.  she   knows  she  missed  her  best  friend  as  well.  if  only  she  was  not  afraid  of  contacting  her  friends  during  those  hard  times.  "  let  me  buy  you  a  coffee.   to   fix   this   mix   up    situation.    “

Freyja has her coffee rather simple, and this drink was anything but. She’d had it before, when Suna had attempted to convince her that it was the best way to drink coffee, Freyja however really begged to differ. She raised an eyebrow at the response, Swedish was always comforting to her but this conversation was anything but. “Det var den enda bra ursäkten,” it was the only good excuse. To Freyja there was no viable reason for disappearing off the face of the earth and not contacting her friend, the only doable one was that she was dead, “eller så hade du kidnappats,” or you had been kidnapped. She wasn’t really sure how best to answer the question, the last thing she wanted was a coffee from Suna, but at the same time she really needed a coffee and there was no way that she could drink this cup of pure sugar that she was currently holding. “Vanilla macchiato with oat milk,” she replied, as if she had never ordered coffee with the other woman before.

axe hunched over his desk, a pen in his hand, flicking between his fingers every time it wasn’t scribbling against paper – he hated computers. hated reading off them, doing work off them – he was a physical man, he wanted his hard copy papers on his desk and he was sick of will and ener giving him shit over it. when he heard a knock on the door, he prepared in picking up his coffee cup to throw in retaliation . . 

until he saw the small form of freyja walking into his office sporting a box of doughnuts, and a knowing half-smile came to his lips. “ i see. ” he nodded, his eyes scanning over her warm face and he sighed, standing to pick up the doughnuts and chuck them on his desk, quickly fishing one out and taking a large bite. “ they’ll be gone by the time i get back in here. ” he explained, gesturing out with one of his hands to lead him to the bug. “ keep away from my doughnuts ! ” he yelled to the boys, but it was no use. and he knew as such. “ when did the noise start ? ”

She smiled as Axe immediately jumped to help, she always appreciated that about him, despite her payment being donuts he was always keen to help. Freyja tried to do as much as she could on her own, often relying on old google to aid her through it, but sometimes she needed a professional touch. Freyja had tried lots of different things to get the noise to stop, but nothing seemed to be working and she was very aware that if she tried too many things she could cause some other problems.

“Maybe I should’ve bought two boxes,” she laughed, making a note to bring more next time. “I noticed it last week, Wednesday I think,” she said, though it was hard to remember exactly, “I’m not going to lie, I usually blast the music so it could’ve been there longer.” Freyja was definitely known for playing her music a little too loudly, and it wasn’t what one would call ‘current’.

Freyja pretty much ran on coffee, along with most of the country, so she spent a good amount of time at the coffee shop. The baristas at this point knew her, well most of them anyway, this stumbling boy was new, and although Freyja was being polite she’d had to hold back many many eyerolls. He’d got confused over her order, twice, and Freyja had had to explain that if he put almond milk in there he could send her to hospital, she wasn’t usually one to scare people, but he seemed like he needed the warning. Finally he handed her a drink and she took a sip, but it wasn’t hers. Freya had ordered a vanilla macchiato with oat milk, and this was definitely not that. It was however a very specific flavour that Freyja had tasted before. She spun around, though it felt like slow motion and then she saw her, Suna. “Så jag antar att du inte är död,” she stated plainly, as if she was talking about the weather. So I guess you’re not dead. She held out the coffee without explaining anything. 

The car had been doing quite well, in fact Freyja was starting to hope that work was nearing the end, until it started making a very unsettling noise. She’d attempted to diagnose the problem herself, but it was a little out of her wheelhouse so she decided to take it to the one person who she knew would have the answer, Axe. She knew she was lucky that she had him onside, because paying him full pay for his help was way way out of her budget, instead Freyja turned up with payment in the form of doughnuts. She pulled the car into the carpark, parking it by the entrance to the garage before climbing out, grabbing the treats from the passenger seat.

She walked in, a smile across her face as she greeted a few of the other work-people, beelining towards Axe’s office. She knocked twice before going in. “So Beactrice is making a rather suspicious noise,” she admitted, referring to the car by the name she’d given it a while ago, Beactrice the Bug. “But I did bring doughnuts,” she said, holding them out towards him.
