Candlenight was fast approaching but Taako wasn’t able to conjure up a gift for most precious ally. He wondered if there was really anything he could give Angus that would be of value to him. He knew if he tried to go shopping for a gift now, it’d be too late, so maybe the best thing he could do was cook him something nice- a whole meal, just the two of them, and enjoy the time they had away from their family.
Taako heads towards his room, ready to tell Angus his plan, but only to find Angus scribbling away on a piece of paper before the young boy turned to him with a look of hurt and disappointment. He quickly tries to ration out what terrible thing could’ve happened, only to have the young boy rush into him, hugging him tightly. Taako reaches down to hug him and before he could get a word in to ask what was wrong, Angus began.
“I-I’m sorry sir. I don’t know what’s keepin’ you here. This is one mystery I can’t solve!” Angus says shakily. (Taako realizes that, despite being part of the B.O.B., Angus is still a young boy. A young boy who had too much on his shoulders by wild adults.)
“Hey- hey Ango, it’s alright...! It’s not bad is it? I mean, you’re here so it can’t all be-”
“B-but I can’t help you get home! I thought I would’ve had solved it by now but I haven’t! I know there’s others who want to see you a-and I don’t think I have much time! I might only be here for a little while or my time might be running out!! I-I don’t want to leave you here sir-”
“Shh, Angus, it’ll be okay,” He tried convincing the other-- or was he trying to convince himself? “Listen, hey. Hey, look at me. Hm? I know it sucks that the others aren’t here. I miss them too. A hell of a lot. But if you’re gonna go back without me...it’ll be okay right? I’m here. I’m alright! I got a couple of friends here too, not that it’s hard with the charm I’ve got. Taako can take care of himself, I’ll be fine!”
Angus doesn’t seem entirely convinced but with Taako’s comforting voice, he manages to let up a little. Taako lets out a soft sigh before ruffling his hair, an uncharacteristic, soft look written across his features.
“Tell Magnus and Merle...I’m expecting them here eventually. If you’re goin’ soon, don’t miss me too much, okay?”
Angus sniffles but reluctantly nods, pulling away from Taako to get another good look at him. He eventually returns the smile as soft lights envelop the young boy.
“I’ll send the word sir. Oh...! Happy early Candlenights! I wrote up something for you, so read it the day of, okay?”
Angus smiles a big, boyish grin before being taken completely. Taako’s smile lingers but the feeling it in fades with the young boy disappearing. He turned to look at the piece of paper left on his desk and feels his heart full and aching at the same time.
“...happy Candlenights Ango.”
