So this is the sweet baby I rescued from the store today. He has a pretty intense swim bladder infection so that’s why he is all flat to the surface. He’s so pretty and I knew that most people that saw him would pass up for a healthy fish (aka left to die by the store). Planning on fasting him and giving him peas so so hopefully he’s better by the end of the week!
He also needs a name so I would love suggestions!
Hello friend! Please don’t feed your betta here peas, they can do much more harm than good as betta are strict carnivores. :> Try unscented epsom salts instead if fasting doesn’t work! Use 1tsp/gallon for no more than a week.
This is new information to me regarding peas! Do tell me more
Whispers frozen Daphnia are a natural laxative! Better than peas :>
Also if you’re going to do the epsom salt baths, do it in a separate container than his usual tank.
ahh, the daphnia's good to know for me, MUCH better than peas
I mean sometimes epsoms don't work and its better to try other things first thank u so much fdjsfd
Feeding peas is fine, it's just fiber and will pass right through them. Kinda like how stuff we can't digest (gum, corn) just gets passed through.
yeah but when you’re constipated it really doesn’t help having more stuff pushed into you.
Like really if the fibre doesn’t help that pea will make things worse
better to just use epsom salt rly. (⊙‿⊙✿)
EDIT: Also, peas wouldn't rly do anything for SWD bc it generally doesn't have anything to do with constipation, but still like there is no reason to feed them peas anyways
really

Still working on getting good pics of my little baby thing, it’s hard! I’ve gathered from online guides that they’re likely around 6 weeks old, based on size (a tad under 1 inch). I read that usually you can’t definitively sex them until they’re around 3 months. Is that true?
The other baby was...
MMm until they're older you're unlikely to be able to tell, 3 months thing is true I'm pretty sure? The best way possible to tell is if they have an egg spot or not (it'll be right between the ventrals) the other ways aren't as reliable, and really, if an egg spot is there after the 3 months you won't really be able to miss it?
Alright, so I have my Betta, Dixon, in a 5.5 gallon heated tank. I’ve noticed before that his fins looked a little mangled, and put a few Indian Almond Leaves in his tank (which didn’t do anything to his fins). It doesn’t look like fin rot at all, so I’m guessing that he’s either biting at his...
Thats fin bitting, "u" shapes are usually the thing that makes if different, if it was plants it would more than likely just be rips.

I got a betta fish this weekend! His name is butterfly 😊💜
Your betta is gorgeous! I would, however, really recommend you to get him out of that vase asap. Although pet stores will often tell you tiny unheated, unfiltered vases are okay homes for bettas, they are not. Bettas are tropical fish that need heaters, filters and an aquarium of at least around 5 gallons. 5 gallons is not a big tank at all nor is it very expensive, so I really hope you’ll consider upgrading your fish or at least reading some of the information on this blog! Keeping your betta in an environment like this really shortens his livespan.

Ditto bettablogging and betta-adventures. You would have to change the water in a small vase like that every single day to keep ammonia levels at an acceptable level. It is definitely worth investing in a bigger home for your fish, although I don’t agree that 5 gallons is the minimum a betta needs. Mine is happy as can be in his cycled 3 gallon.
The general thing for newbies is 5g cause they are WAY easier to care for, they can be fine in smaller but it takes more work.
One of my betts fish, Tiki, keeps biting his tail and it’s worse every day. He’s been biting since I got him about six months ago. However, he used to bite and then he’d stop for a week or two and heal a bit and then he’d start again. Lately, he’s been biting more frequently and not giving his…
Whats his tail type? If its too big sometimes they eat it so they can swim better, can’t do too much for him with this. And the deco thing is because he might be bored! I’d try changing up his deco often to see if it helps. Continue changing the water, its important.
He’s a halfmoon double tail….I know that those guys are infamous for gnawing. I’ll change his water again and switch out his decorations with one of my other bettas. Also, he’s in a 2 gallon tank, I have a 3 gallon tank that another one of my bettas is in, should I try switching him into the bigger tank?
They really are! Yeah, try the deco, if not maybe try a bigger tank? It might make it worse tho, make sure he has lots of spots to sit on the top. If it is the fins tho it'll be pretty hard to make hime stop, lots of tall plants for him to rest on and stuff is the biggest thing, no strong waterflow.

I’m soaking everything from Stitch’s tank in really hot water just in case there may have been any sort of contagions. I believe his bloat led to the dropsy so I don’t think it’s anything contagious but is there anything else safe I can use to clean everything?
Vinegar mixed with water! 20 parts water to 1 part vinegar.
Make sure to rinse REALLY well after cleaning.
shit I realize I did not have the right medicine to treat popeye
better talk with mum about this…
I don’t want to Hawkeye to lose his sight
can Popeye be treated with just regular water change and Aquarium Salt?
From what I remember with popeye AQ salt hurts? Epsom salt will bring down swelling, lots if water changes.

The new girls! Goldie (top) and Pale (bottom)
So I turned on my AC, and it got even hotter, the system is set to cool, and I know how to cool my other pets but I’m worried about Attila. I turned off his heater but the tank is almost at NINETY. I don’t know what to do because I heard ice was really bad, and on top of that our ice has chlorine, I really don’t know what to do and I’m really worried.
Should I put him in a cup and set the cup in slightly cooler water, or is 85-90 not that bad for a betta? (even if it isn’t please give me advice in case things get worse, and tell me what tempteratures are going to be safe for him)
tbh I wouldn't float a cup in cooler water, the best thing to do is to direct a fan OVER water (not at the water) it should help to cool it down some, if you have a HOB filter you can point it into that.
Heres a good guide!
