In an age where politics has become so fractured that some feel the need to engage in tactical voting, it's important for everyone's vote to matter.
That's why we need to replace First-Past-the-Post with a proportional system.
Wherever you are in the North, remember to vote tomorrow.
The right to participate in elections was hard-won and local councils play a big part in our lives.
The Green Party has accused Reform of "making abhorrent announcements in attempts to distract voters".
Reform know even their own voters can't stand to see the disgraceful dehumanisation of asylum seekers and immigrants.
So, as a reward for voting for their concentration camps, their supporters won't have to look at them.
On May Day we remember that the long fight for worker’s rights in the North and around the world continues today.
In the face of AI and a rising far-right we can't take our wins for granted.
Tell us about your work and we'll find the right union for you.

Investigation reveals how Horus, a company led by ex-military intelligence officials, was hired during protest movement.
Universities are making staff redundant, struggling to fund core research, and cutting the degrees they offer. Yet they can afford to spend money spying on people they have a duty of care over.
We need proper funding for higher education and research, and an end to the hostile environment.

Artist Rob MacDonald hopes the Sunderland community will help carve cobbles for the monument's base.
This project is a great way of showing international solidarity and highlighting a lesser known historical link to the Spanish Civil War.

A school librarian faced a disciplinary hearing and scores of books were removed from her school library after she stocked Laura Bates’ Men
This story of over 100 books being removed from a school library is an outrageous restriction of young people's ability to access information & culture in a safe and supported environment.
Librarians are experts who should be trusted and supported to do their jobs, not punished just because a headmaster saw a book they don't like.

Should the North devolve from Westminster?
This is a great introduction to the North/South divide and why independence is the answer. Perfect for sharing with friends and family who are curious about why it's important.
Inspired by the 2018 centenary celebrations of women’s suffrage, this online exhibition uncovers the involvement of Northern women in movem
For International Women's Day we want to share the work done by historians at Newcastle University to uncover the history of Northern women fighting for change throughout the UK.
Custodian University of Sunderland says renovation costs of £45m are too high and building must be pulled down. Not without a fight, say loc
Sunderland shouldn't lose an important cultural centre because the government won't fund universities properly.
If the University of Sunderland can't keep it open, then the community should get to decide what happens.

Fantastic to see the people of Gorton and Denton stand against hate and division. We're all better off for showing that hopeful politics can win.
And Muslims not voting for right wing parties that have instigated and fanned the flames of Islamophobia is not a grand conspiracy, it's perfectly reasonable.
We wanted to know what candidates in tomorrow's by-election think about the North/South divide. Here are excerpts from the responses we received, if a party or candidate isn't listed here then they didn't reply to us.
We asked candidates in the Gorton & Denton by-election these questions:
What would you do to address the North/South divide if elected to parliament?
What are your views on devolution in the North?
SDP - Sebastian Moore
“I am in favour of the greatest level of decentralisation possible because I know that the people closest to an area are best placed to make the decisions.”
Libertarian Party - Dan Clarke
“I believe that if there is significant devolution to the North, where As much devolution as possible is done, […] then living standards, industry, jobs etc will significantly improve and be in line with standards down south.”
Rejoin EU - Joseph O'Meachair
“the North requires some form of regional government to access and use the regional development funds available through the EU, but only if we are members.”
Advance UK - Nick Buckley
“I want local people making the decisions that affect them and their families. I suppose I want a type of devolution, but not the way we currently do it, which pits regions against each other.”
