To add to the āthis wouldāve happened anywayā āinvisible string between Katniss and Peetaā lore, while I do believe all of the main characters of the original trilogy are traumatized to some extent by Panem in general, Katniss and Peeta are the only ones who are mentioned to have experienced trauma from living family members (Prim is also a possibility but sheās never been written to have any focus surrounding that like Katniss or Peeta or seemed as responsive to what happened with their mom as Katniss was). Pre-reaping Katniss had already been neglected and given too much responsibility, and Peeta was being physically abused and was verbally abused until the minute he left for the games.
Which gives an even sweeter meaning to the ending with them as a family where theyāre not only safe from the games and war, but also from the sadder parts of their family.

I'm thinking about how Katniss describes the rock that Thresh uses to kill Clove. She compares its size to "a small loaf of bread." This is what I mean when I say I could talk about the bread symbolism for hours. It's actually insane that Thresh is saving her life here, but in Katniss' mind, it echoes Peeta. or, to add onto your point, when he holds out his arms to hold her and she runs into them and says āitās the first time since they announced the quarter quell that heās offered me any sort of affectionā as if Peeta is regularly showering her in hugs and kisses and cuddles, and as if in her mind the cameras constantly on them suddenly have nothing to do with it š.
