The  creature  was  relentless.  It  took  each  and  every  blow  as  if  Buffy’s  knuckles  were  made  of  cotton.  She  could  feel  fresh  blood  trickling  between  her  fingers  when  the  taut  skin  of  her  clenched  fists  made  contact  with  the  rough,  hard  flesh  of  the  vampire’s  grotesque  face,  the  scent  of  it  sending  the  demonic  beast  further  into  frenzy.  She’d  managed  to  kill  one  already  before  the  second  showed  up,  drawn  to  the  heavy  groans  of  exertion  Buffy  exhaled,  nursing  the  injuries  sustained  from  the  first.  Realisation  began  to  sink  in  the  pit  of  her  stomach.  She’d  weakened  it,  maybe,  but  it  wasn't enough. 

She  might  not  be  able  to  kill  it.  Fear  rose  like  bile  in  her  throat,  eyes  widening  when  the  uber  vamp  lashed  out,  sending  her  flying,  the  harsh  crash  landing  knocking  the  air  from  her  lungs  with  such  force  Buffy  almost  passed  out.  Her  vision  darkened  and  the  world  span,  the  creature  charging  towards  her,  ravenous  to  feast,  when  it  stopped  dead,  hesitating.  What  are  you  waiting  for?  

the ubervamp came like a cathedral given legs: primeval, hulking, silhouette heavier than its form. it struck with the cruelty of history and stone quickly met bone. slayer flew, hit marble, and the crack splintered down the headstones. the night was stacked against her. the seer laughed⸺ not with mirth, but with terror's twin. a silver-bell sound pierced through her. “ no, ” she sung, stepping from shadows as if a curtain was pulled aside for her. “ THAT ONE IS MINE. ” she moves with the might of an angel turned feral. her dress flutters; the creature turns, snarls, ancient mouth shaping old contempt, but drusilla is already upon it. striking with a dancer's precision, a lunatic's certainty. nails raked hard flesh; a quiet word, half prediction, half curse, purred inside the monster's ear.

she didn't fight it how one fights an enemy. she unmade it like a bad dream; revealed futures where it was ash, where the golden girl's light carried on, and ghouls relearned fear. it staggers, roaring, bravery shattered. it flees while dragging its legend behind like a torn cloak. silence returns, shaken but whole, and the vampire spins at once, entire atmosphere narrowing to the shape of a lone body crumpled in a grotesque fashion. she kneels, skirt pooling similar to spilled ink, gathering her pets face in trembling palms. buffy's skin is warm, so warm, and that alone makes drusilla's eyes sting.

“ shh, ” she croons, thumbs brushing dirt and blood away. “ my pretty, burning maiden. this mad world shan't rip you from my breast. you are promised to tomorrow, to every day next. weep not, mummy is here... ” drusilla traces her fingers along buffy's jaw. “ the night's been awfully mean. NOW IT'S MY TURN TO BE SWEET. ” she lifts a bleeding hand, presses lips to the bruised knuckles, a benediction sealed in a kiss. twice. counting heartbeats back into place. the sky watches. the graves listen. in the hush after violence, affection lay breathing between them, strangely tender and alive, a confidence the dark could not keep.
