âR-Rope him into it? Haha! I wouldnât- âŚ.Well probably.âÂ
âWe-Well, that probably was not the best choice of words to use, but I will be rooting for you Hanabi-chan!â
âThanks Ricchan! Howâs school going for you?âÂ
hc + shoujo manga
âI got my start in the shoujo genre, you know! Lotâs of BL mangaka do. I still read shoujo from time to time. A lot of the tropes in shoujo and BL are very similar, theyâre both romance genres after all. My favorite type of shoujo is the forbidden love type, ya know like a lady and her butler. But thatâs what I like about BL hehe, it gets even more intense when it become a forbidden love between a man and his butler.âÂ
Cutting off hair in ancient Asia (Japan, china, Korea & possibly some other Asian cultures) symbolizes being banished or rejected from their home. In the more modern age that is now, cutting long hair into a short cut means to forget the past, leaving the old and starting anew.

Rest â
Hanabi is an early riser despite sometimes needing the extra sleep because of late nights. Once sheâs awake sheâs quick to get up out of bed and moving. She doesnât like to waste any time then could be spent doing things!
âMy best hit?â Hanabi questioned incredulously. âYou were just complaining a second ago about me hitting you.â Truth was she had no idea how to injur this manâs ego at the moment. Maybe she ought to challenge  him to a drinking competition...
So she resorted to turning on her charm. âPleeease, Kaido-san. Iâll even come by your place to pick them up!âÂ

âOh you know, when itâs not con season there isnât as much money to be made with dojins so... I got a part time job!âÂ
She was so surprised to see her classmate here, and Agatsuma no less. Thinking about it she supposed it was going to happen eventually. But she truly couldn't believe her eyes. Agatsuma was here, and all on his own! Well... it was true that he seemed like the kind of person who preferred to eat alone. Maybe she shouldnât bother him too much. ...But that wouldnât be an ounce of fun! Â
âYou know Agastuma-sama, they are trying to hire some cute butlers for the restaurant. I bet you could get a job no problem.â Complimenting Soubi was like a sport for her. He was one of the most beautiful men she had ever met but when he was told so Soubi always seemed bewildered. She was surprised that he didnât hear that kind of stuff constantly. It was likely that people were too scared to approach him. And he did have those bandages around his neck all of the time, she was starting to wonder about that...Â
In case nobody told you today, you are good enough.

HC + Friends
Hanabi loves her friends!!! Sheâs super friendly and outgoing so for her meeting new people is really fun. She especially likes hanging out with her friends from her doujinshi circle and people she meets at cons.Â
Actually everybody at school thinks she is super weird because she draws yaoi and manga is a culturally loaded gun. And then throw her into an art school that is traditionally focused and itâs like letting frankensteinâs monster loose in a mob with freshly lit torches.Â
But she does make friends at school, she loves to go out drinking, she keeps in touch with some of her high school friends and also is friends with some neighbors in her building. At school one of her close friends is Kio and she met Soubi through him.Â

When Hanabi strolled down the halls of her university she often was greeted with jeers. Some of it came from her peers in the art school who  misunderstood her BL career and the rest came from well-meaning schoolmates who misunderstood the field of art as a whole.
âHey! Starving artist!â While it was somewhat true that she was occasionally on the brink of starvation, that was more due to her lack of knowledge in the kitchen. Hanabi didnât need comments like that in her life, she didnât have that much confidence in her career, after all. However, with school in the way she was realizing that dojinshi sales were not going to be enough to support her only she was only working on manga part time. So, she got a job.
Maid Restu. The name of her new work place was a corny play on words. Insinuating that it was a family restaurant, and a place of rest. She didnât care, it was lovely, it was fun, it was⌠a paying job, after all. Her uniform was something that might be considered becoming on a high school girl, if Soubi was the judge. A short black dress, a white laced apron and a cute little cap. And it didnât look bad on her, she thought, she had a rather slim figure and a good bust.
It wasnât a seedy type of place where men came in giving aliases, and patted her backside as she walked away. It was a nice homely family eatery where she greeted her Masters, Misses, and young masters, and little misses with as much sincerity. Kids loved being waited on here, and parents didnât feel embarrassed. Quite honestly, the skirts were even shorter at the other non-themed local family restaurants.
Hanabi was at the door greeting her customers when she came upon a pleasant surprise. She recognized the young boy walking in alone.Â
âHeyya Ricchan! Youâre not with your little buddies today?â She cleared her voice. âEhem, Ricchan-sama that is.âÂ
âHuh? Hanabi-chan, I didnât know that you worked here at all. And not really; it is my classmates who are a bit late.â Ritsuka answered as he walked into the restaurant and looked around at the various people that were wearing the same kind of outfit like Hanabi, but he really didnât seem to question it. In fact, it didnât seem to bother him that much to see that kind of maidâs uniform other than what he has seen in Yayoiâs manga collection; not like he would ever admit that.
Ricchan-sama? Oh, thatâs right. Maids usually had to address someone as a master or mistress since they would be a low servant, but it reminded Ritsuka too much of how his relationship with Soubi was at the beginning, but he couldnât blame Hanabi since it was part of her job. âYou look quite cute in that outfit, Hanabi-chan.â He pulled out his phone from his school bag and checked to see if he had gotten any kind of message from either Yuiko or Yayoi, but there was none. He sighed and wondered if he had been stood up or if Yuiko was just forgetful to even let Ritsuka know if she had gotten caught up with something.
Hanabi was really happy to see the familiar face of Ritsuka. His relationship with Soubi had really caught her eye to say the least. After Ritsuka had come to Comiket she noticed how well he and Soubi got on, it was amazing to actually see that man smiling and taking part in silly activities with a kid. And Kio always was going on about Ritsuka, he would blab to Hanabi about the kid constantly, how Soubi was always ignoring him for Ritsuka and what not. Hanabi knew Kio was just being over dramatic. She liked Ritsuka!Â
âYup! Itâs a new part time job. Schoolâs expensive, ya know.âÂ
Hanabi happily held her arm out to direct Ritsuka to the seating area. âRight this way master!âÂ
âExactly Ricchan! And for me it lines right up with the start of my rush season for Doujinshi! I have lots of events to attend in the summer.âÂ
âOh my. It does sound like you are going to be very stressed out for quite a while. Are you going to rope Soubi into helping out again like you did last time?â
âR-Rope him into it? Haha! I wouldnât- ....Well probably.âÂ

Youth â
Hanabi started self publishing manga six years ago. At the astonishing age 14. Impressive as that may sound, her first self-published manga was no gem. Still, she looks back at it with pride.
Four years after she began drawing seriously and already Hanabi felt ready to get her work out there. She graduated from hidden sketchbooks to a 20 copy printing of a sappy shoujo dojinshi.
A lot of manga influenced her when she was a kid, before the times that she began writing the actual manga. She would see it being read by the other children in school and when she didnât have room in her allowance Hanabi would borrow copies of manga magazines from the other kids. Common around the classroom was Shonen Jump. Hanabi took to reading the stories in there before moving on to other genres. When she did move on, she discovered that more than the action she loved the romance stories. She loved the comedy that could be included, the deep emotions the storylines evoked, and the sweet tone they held. She noticed that manga varied so much. That she would find two very similar plots in different manga that were such parallel opposites. Plots, characters, emotions she wanted to express, they all began cropping up in her head and the sketches she had been making drew it all together. Hanabi wanted to make manga. She played around with little cartoons, sketching a few panels and trying to draw her characters in. She copied other styles for a while, not sure where she was the most comfortable. The cute story lines she leaned towards led to her developing horribly cheesy, cliche manga at first. And the iconic large eyes, carrot noses, thin necks, all the things she saw in various shojo mangas went staright into hers. It took her time before she began developing a style of her own, moving things around to suit her, playing with stylization and realism. Hanabiâs style has never stopped evolving to greater heights. Her writing bloomed from the start. It had been nonexistent but as she wrote and read more Hanabi discovered a love for it and a knack.
When she had been sketching manga for only a few months, Hanabi discovered Yaoi and BL manga. It wasnât until she was a few years older that she began exploring the boyâs love story lines. She had always been very attracted to the romantic side of things. So why not, she figured, add a dash of forbidden love. Hanabi, forever entranced by common but creative cliches like forbidden love, fell deeply into a forbidden love of her own with BL manga. From then on most of her works turned in that direction as she decided to explore that side of the romantic genre as deeply and thoroughly as she could.
