Voldemort tried to convince Frank's parents to be early followers of his. They were murdered when they said no a third time. Augusta Longbottom took Frank in to care for him and has been the best caregiver he could have asked for.
Augusta did not go into detail about how Frank's parents passed away. She made sure he knew they were brave but didn't want him to know that a madman killed them from a young age.
The two have tea every Sunday at 10:30 AM, with his not being allowed to show up late.
Frank has a background in Muay Tai. Augusta is to blame for his having been enrolled from a young age. She believed he needed to know how to protect himself without magic from a young age.
Frank is easily distracted, quite preferring the spontaneity the field provides over the desk duty end of things.
