El VL-1 fue el primer instrumento de la línea de productos VL-Tone de Casio y, a veces, llamado directamente VL-Tone. Combina una calculadora, un sintetizador monofónico y un secuenciador. Fue lanzado en junio de 1979, y fue el primer sintetizador digital comercial. Cuenta con 29 teclas de botón de la calculadora (G a B), un interruptor de octava de tres posiciones, un programable y cinco sonidos predefinidos, diez patrones de ritmo incorporados, una pantalla LCD de ocho caracteres, un secuenciador de 100 notas y un multi- modo de calculadora de función.
