The Original Starlet

“Come on.” Taking his hand she led him downstairs to the kitchen leaving him to take a seat on one of the stools while she pottered around the kitchen. With a wink the redhead slid a soda over the benchtop to the boy, sipping on her own while she prepared a quick snack. “Not the healthiest but grilled cheese is deffinitely one of the tastiest snacks.” Especially since Ruby had a habit of putting four different types of cheese and a sprinkling of garlic on it. Eyeing Gil Ruby pulled out more supplies to double what she was making.

“I had a Gilly-pillow.” Ruby teased playfully, standing up before stretching out a hand to help him rise. He wasn’t fine, she could see that, but if he wanted to say he was okay she wouldn’t push him. “How about we raid the kitchen for some snacks? I think you’ve more than earned it.”

Ruby giggled as they fell to the floor, her body shaking with laughter as she rolled off of him. The redhead rose gracefully, shifting to a seated position, legs tucked to one side. “Are you okay?” A moisturized palm cupped his cheek, polished thumb brushing against his cheekbone. She wanted a little daring fun but she didn’t want that to cause him an injury.

“Well then I guess you’d better be there to...” Ruby turned slightly before gracefully leaping off the bedhead and towards him. Her arms wrapped around his neck, the redhead just naturally expecting him to catch her before she hit the ground. “...catch me.”

“You underestimate the value of a good pair of heels.” Ruby retorted primly, she could walk in heels better than most people could walk in flats. She had her mother’s poise and grace, and she could definitely hold her own, heels and all. Strutting past him into the room she hopped up onto the bedhead, heels sauntering the narrow strip of wood to the other end and back. Hands on hips she cocked a challenging eyebrow at the pirate. “Now what was that you were saying about my balance and my heels?”

Crimson polished nails grabbed a couple of bright scarves, tying one around her waist, the other around her head like a bandana. She was still wearing a knee-length dress and her high heels, heels that clicked as she tried to help him steer the piano towards the doors of the spare room. “There, do you think I could pass for a pirate or do I still need a few touches?”

“Pirate shanties?” Ruby’s eyes lit up deviously at the sound of it. “Well that sounds perfectly villainous. Maybe one day you’ll sing them for me.” Maybe he’d even teach them to her, that would be even better. Her mind was already racing at ideas on how to incorporate pirate shanties into her music. “Are there any items required, like a bottle of rum or an eye-patch?”
