"Egon, something's happened to Alex, she's hurt! Ray's gone with her to Mercy General Hospital!"
He stopped, his anger now replaced with fear.
"I have to go," he said and rushed out the door to hail a taxi.
"Mercy Hospital, as fast you can, my wife-"
"You got it, buddy," the driver immediately replied, setting off before Egon even had a chance to fasten his seatbelt.
His mind was whirring with all kinds of scenarios as the taxi driver flew through the city streets as fast as he could without breaking the law.
He pulled a twenty out of his wallet and threw it at the driver as soon as he stopped at the drop off zone, getting out of the taxi and running towards the entrance to the ER. He immediately ran up to the desk.
"My wife, Alex Spengler, I was told she-"
Before he could finish his sentence, he felt two strong hands grab his arms, twisting them behind his back. Before he could react, he felt his wrists secured with metal cuffs. He tried to twist around but the grip on his arms was too strong.
"What the-"
He was interrupted by the man holding him, who spun him around brutally, forcing him against the reception desk. A pair of furious blue eyes burned into him.
"Egon Spengler, you're under arrest for the rape and murder of Veronica Duncan, Carol Marconi and Annie O'Hallahan."
"What, no, I didn't-"
"Save it," snapped the dark haired woman standing next to the man restraining him. "Detective Benson and this is Detective Stabler. "You have the right to remain silent, Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to talk to a lawyer and have a lawyer with you during questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be appointed for you before any questioning if you wish."
Egon just looked at them in disbelief.
"No," he uttered. "No, I didn't. Please, I need to see my wife, Ray told me she's been attacked!"
"What the hell is going on here!"
To his intense relief, he saw Ray storming towards them a look of fury and worry on his face.
"You are?" Benson queried challenging.
"Dr Ray Stantz, friend and colleague of Dr Spengler and his wife," Ray snapped. "Why are you arresting him, he needs to be with Alex!"
"Ray," said Egon desperately. "They think I killed those women!"
"No," Ray exclaimed. "No you've made a mistake!" He attempted to free his friend and was shoved away.
"Back off," warnedStabler. "Or I'll arrest you as an accessory and for obstruction."
Egon swallowed and tried to calm himself.
"Ray, go be with Alex, tell her I'll see her soon," Egon said as the detective dragged him away.
Ray looked at him in anguish.
"I will, Egie and we'll get to the bottom of this, I promise."
Egon gave him a gallows smile as he left with the two detectives.
